China Real Estate People in the News 2015-03-23

2015/03/23 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

This week China’s real estate professionals on the move include a familiar Scotsman taking on new responsibilities at Cushman & Wakefield, JLL bringing in new blood in Shanghai, and an English architect trading in Asia’s bright lights for greener fields back home in Merry Olde. All this and more, if you read on.

James Shepherd Cushman & WakefieldJames Shepherd has been promoted to Executive Director, Head of Research & Consulting – Greater China with Cushman & Wakefield. Shepherd’s role with the real estate services firm is expanding to include the company’s development consulting business, while still covering the research division. The graduate of Southampton Solent University originally joined Cushman & Wakefield in January of 2014 after previously having served in a number of management roles in Asia with Colliers International, Ernst & Young and Knight Frank. Shepherd will continue to be based in Shanghai for this new position.

Joseph KimJoseph Kim has joined JLL in Shanghai as a Director with the real estate services company. In his new role, Kim will have responsibility both for researching the logistics real estate market in East China, as well as for covering inbound investment deals into China. Kim joins JLL after having completed his MBA studies at the Hong Kong Unversity of Science and Technology, where he concentrated in finance. Before beginning his MBA program in 2013, Kim had been employed as a Senior Manager on the investment side with Korea’s WSD Capital.

Cliff Cao FosunCliff Cao is now Human Resources Director with StarCapital, a division of Fosun Property Holdings. Cao comes to StarCapital from another Fosun subsidiary, Sunyicapital, where he had served as HR director for more than two years. Cao is a long-term employee with the Shanghai-based investment firm, after starting with the company’s Forte Capital in 2010. Cao also has experience in human resources with research firm Tebon Securities.

Jimmy LuJimmy Lu has joined Jingruis Real Estate as M&A Director with the Shanghai-based property agency. The University of Auckland graduate has moved to Jingruis after spending more than three years as a manager with Ernst & Young in Shanghai, and also has nearly two and a half years experience with state-owned engineering firm Shanghai Construction Group. Lu also has prior experience as a manager with DTZ.

Nicola Zhou DTZNicola Zhou has been promoted to Valuer with DTZ, Valuation and Advisory Services division in Shanghai. Zhou takes on this latest challenge after spending nearly two years with the real estate agency, most as a Senior Marketing Assistant with DTZ’s Project & Building Consultancy division in Shanghai. Zhou also has experience as a personal assistant to the head of DTZ’s Project and Building Consultancy division.

Ben Somner Broadway MalyanBen Somner has picked up and left Shanghai to head back to the UK, where he will continue his role as an Associate Director with architecture firm Broadway Malyan. Somner’s move comes after the University of Bath graduate had spent more than five years in Shanghai with Broadway Malyan. Somner characterised his move back to England as a retreat to leafy suburbia from the bustle of Shanghai, but such lifestyle refugees often have a habit of heading back this way.

Alex HeAlex He has joined Taikang Asset Management as a Senior Manager with the division of China’s state-owned goliath, Taikang Life Insurance Company. In his new role, He will continue to be based in Beijing, after previously serving there as a Manager with Colliers International’s consulting division. The University of St Andrews graduate also has experience as a valuer with CBRE’s valuation team in Beijing.

As usual, if you know of other China real estate professionals changing their jobs, getting promoted or just doing something exciting, please feel free to share with the rest of the community here at Mingtiandi.
