Michio Matsumoto, Managing Director, Head of Japan, EQT Real Estate

Michio Matsumoto is Managing Director and Head of Real Estate, Japan for EQT. Based in Tokyo, Michio is responsible for leading EQT’s real estate investment strategy and operations in Japan, a key market for the firm’s Asia Pacific platform.

With over 30 years of experience in Japan’s real estate industry, he most recently served as Executive Officer and Head of Investments at KJR Management from October 2023 to February 2025. Prior to KJR, Michio spent more than a decade at CBRE Investment Management (formerly CBRE Global Investors), where he held key leadership roles including Senior Director, Head of Commercial-Residential, and Head of Acquisitions. Michio began his career at Kajima Corporation and later gained experience in the real estate division of Deutsche Bank.

Michio holds an MBA from the University of Rochester in the United States and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Tokyo.

EQT is a purpose-driven global investment organization with EUR 267 billion in total assets under management (EUR 139 billion in fee-generating assets under management) as of 30 September 2025, divided into two business segments: Private Capital and Real Assets. EQT supports its global portfolio companies and assets in achieving sustainable growth, operational excellence, and market leadership. Within EQT’s Real Assets segment, EQT Real Estate acquires, develops, leases, and manages logistics and residential properties in the Americas, Europe, and diversified sectors in Asia. EQT Real Estate owns and operates over 2,000 properties and 400 million square feet, with over 440 experienced professionals across 50 locations globally.
