Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-04-06

While the coronavirus has most of Asia’s real estate professionals working from home, the health menace hasn’t kept some of the region’s decision-makers from advancing their careers, as a former member of Goldman Sachs’ Hong Kong real estate team takes a step up in Abu Dhabi, and a senior property lawyer finds a new home in Tokyo.

Also, in this week’s review of promotions and new hires, a global real estate consultancy names a new head of capital markets for southern China and a retail specialist finds a new role in Beijing.

Toshi TsuchiyaInternational law firm Withers announced on 1 April that Toshi Tsuchiya had joined its team as a partner, based in Tokyo. Tsuchiya, who joins Withers from rival firm Orrick, is understood to have brought along other members of his former squad to join him on the real estate investment team in his new shop. Tsuchiya specialises in advising on real estate acquisitions and development projects, as well as on bank finance transactions, according to Withers’ statement.

tianyi wangTianyi Wang has been promoted to Investment Manager at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority after spending just over three years as a Senior Associate with the emirati sovereign wealth fund. The graduate of Canada’s University of British Columbia has now been with ADIA since 2015, when he joined as an Associate with the firm’s real estate and infrastructure department after spending two years with the real estate team at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong.

jacob chen cwJacob Chen has been promoted to Director and Head of Capital Markets for South China at Cushman & Wakefield, according to an update on his LinkedIn profile. The Shenzhen-based broker took the step up after spending just over one year as a Senior Associate Director at the US-based real estate consultancy, and has now been with the firm in Shenzhen since 2013. The graduate of National Taipei University and the UK’s University of Reading also has previous experience as a clerk with the Sanchong Land Office in Taipei.

frank liFrank Li has joined Foshan FOAO Group’s Star Square Investment division as a General Manager based in Beijing, according to an update on his LinkedIn profile. Li took on his new role last month after just under three years at the Huaxi Live division of Bloomage International, where he also served as a General Manager with the operator of hybrid sports and shopping projects. Huaxi is best known for the Wukesong Arena in Beijing, which is also known as the Cadillac Center.

elisa yiuElisa Yiu has left her role as Head of Communications for Hong Kong at Cushman & Wakefield to join HSBC, where she began serving as a Senior Marketing Manager for Commercial Banking since the beginning of this month. The University of Hong Kong graduate, who ranked as a Director with C&W, had spent more than three years at Cushman & Wakefield, and also has previous experience with PwC and Thomson Reuters.

jacques koJacques Ko has been promoted to Senior Manager with the office leasing division at JLL in Hong Kong, after working for 17 months as a Manager with the same team. Ko, who joined the property consultancy as a graduate trainee in 2016, is part of the tenant representation team at JLL, and the graduate of the City University of Hong Kong also spent one year as an internship trainee at rival brokerage CBRE.

marco leungMarco Leung has been promoted to Assistant Manager at Cushman & Wakefield in Hong Kong, where he serves as part of the firm’s consulting department. Leung’s step up comes after the graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University spent one year and nine months as a graduate trainee at C&W, after joining in 2018. Leung also has previously served as an intern with real estate fund manager Pamfleet and at ISS Facility Services.
