Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-04-13

With mainland China returning to something that begins to resemble normal working conditions executives in the middle kingdom dominate this week’s collection of people moves from around the region, with developers in Shanghai and Shenzhen introducing new senior leadership. While Hong Kong remains largely locked down, a top executive at JLL has decided to start a new chapter, while Colliers International braves the shopping apocalypse to promote a retail director.

he haiyang Shanghai Zendai Property announced this past week that it has named He Haiyang as its new Chief Executive Officer, as well as appointing him as an Executive Director of the Hong Kong-listed developer. Now 48, He, who had served as a director of China Orient Summit Capital before joining Zendai, replaces Zhang Huagang, who has since been announced as the new chairman of Kaisa Health – a division of Shenzhen-based developer Kaisa Holding.

wang haiwuMainland developer China Vanke has appointed Wang Haiwu as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer, according to an announcement to the Hong Kong stock exchange last week. Now 42, Wang, who now also serves as an Executive Vice President with the Shenzhen-based giant, has been with Vanke since 2003. Before receiving this latest promotion, Wang had been CEO of Vanke’s central and western China division as well as filling the role of general manager of the company’s Chengdu office.

Thio Gim HockFormer OUE Chief Executive Officer Thio Gim Hock passed away on 3 April of a blood disorder and kidney failure, according to an account in Singapore’s Straits Times. The one-time Olympic water polo player was 82 at the time of his death and had retired from the developer on 31 December of last year. Thio had led OUE for a decade before his retirement last year, and his role was then taken up by the developer’s chairman, Stephen Riady.

leonard hsuFormer CBRE executive Leonard Hsu has made the jump to the developer side, joining Shanghai Mapletree Management as a Deputy General Manager for commercial asset management for China. Hsu, who is now based in Shanghai, joins the Singapore-based firm after just under two years as Managing Director for Hangzhou at CBRE. Prior to that posting, the graduate of the University of Southern California had spent more than six years with JLL.

rita wongHong Kong-based JLL team member Rita Wong has left the property consultancy after 27 years to take on a new challenge. Wong, who served most recently as Head of Valuation and Advisory Services for Hong Kong, has not revealed her next move, but in a posting to her LinkedIn account indicated that she would be taking some time off. After originally joining JLL in 1993, Wong had worked her way up to the rank of Executive Director before leaving the company this past week.

Cynthia Ng of Colliers InternationalCynthia Ng has been promoted to Senior Director for Retail Services at Colliers International in Hong Kong. Ng is taking a step up after nearly four years as a Director with the Toronto-based property consultancy. The graduate of the University of Technology in Sydney also spent more than five years with CBRE in Hong Kong, where she worked her way up to Director, after serving with Stockland and the GPT Group in Australia.

neil zhang hongbinNeil Zhang Hongbin has joined China Vanke in Guangzhou, where he now serves as a Manager with the developer’s Commercial Real Estate Operation and Management team. Zhang joins the mainland development titan after more than three years with Colliers in Hong Kong, where he served most recently as an Assistant Manager with the company’s Capital Markets and Investment Services team.
