Asia Real Estate People in the News 2021-02-22

As the Ox Year gets under way in Asia the region’s real estate people are on the move, with a KKR managing director reportedly heading out the door in Singapore, and a top US architecture firm signing on new leadership in Shanghai. There are also new name cards being distributed at Heitman, Oaktree and Knight Frank in Mingtiandi’s weekly roundup of personnel changes.

terence lee kkrKKR Asia Pacific managing director Terence Lee has resigned from his position with the fund manager, according to a report by Bloomberg. Lee, who has been based in Singapore, was with the US buyout pioneer for a decade, during which time he was involved in the company’s investment in Asian property listings platform PropertyGuru, as well as in Indonesia’s Gojek and other regional tech firms.

peter duncan somPeter Duncan has joined US architecture heavyweight Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as China Regional Practice Leader, based in Shanghai, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Duncan signed up with SOM after nearly five years as managing director with The Design Catalogue, a Shanghai and Vienna-based design firm. Earlier, Duncan had spent 19 years with Hassell, including four years as chairman of the board.

raymond zhang heitmanUS fund manager Heitman has added to its Hong Kong-based team by bringing on board Raymond Zhuo Zhang as senior vice president and head of Greater China and Southeast Asia with its client service and marketing division. Zhang joins Heitman from China Orient Summit Capital in Beijing, where he had spent more than six years, including nearly three years as a managing director. The graduate of Columbia University also has previous experience with Gaw Capital in Shanghai.

qian shang OaktreeDebt specialist Oaktree Capital Management has promoted Qian (Chris) Shang to vice president with its real estate opportunities fund in Hong Kong, according to an update on LinkedIn. Shang has now been with Oaktree for nearly four years and had served most recently as an associate. Also a graduate of the master’s in real estate program at Columbia, Shang has prior experience with China Investment Corporation (CIC) and Barclays.

murphy chung Knight FrankMurphy Chung has joined Knight Frank in Hong Kong as a director with the property consultancy’s office services division. Chung, who is part of Knight Frank’s Kowloon office team joins the UK firm from rival JLL, where he had spent just over a year as a director. The graduate of Canada’s University of Windsor also spent more than eight years with Colliers International in Hong Kong, where he had worked his way up to associate director before leaving in 2019.

alvin man colliersColliers International has signed on some new leadership in Hong Kong with Alvin Man having joined the Toronto-based property consultancy this month as finance director, according to a statement by the company. Man joins Colliers from Chanco Investment Group, the parent company of local boutique hospitality chain Butterfly Hotel Group, where he had spent more than three years as commercial director. Man also has previous experience with ANZ Bank and JP Morgan Chase.
