Asia Real Estate People in the News 2023-04-24

Some sad news mixes in with Mingtiandi’s usual crop of promotions and new hires this week as a mainland developer announces the passing of its founder and chairman. Also making our list of personnel moves this week, a Hong Kong developer welcomes the chairman’s daughter to its board, Vanke and Temasek name a managing director for a China real estate joint venture and more.

Chen Guoxiang ShinsunMainland developer Shinsun Holdings announced to the Hong Kong stock exchange on 16 April that its chairman, Chen Guoxiang had passed away due to illness at the age of 72. Following the death of Chen, who founded the Zhejiang-based developer, his 40-year-old son Chen Hongni, who had already been serving as an executive director and chief executive, has been appointed as chairman.

Jasmine Chung CSICSI Properties Ltd filed a notice to the Hong Kong bourse on 20 April that Jasmine Chung Yuen Tung had been appointed to an executive director role on the company’s board, where she will also join the executive committee. Now 31, Chung is the daughter of CSI chairman Mico Chung and the niece of CSI chief operating officer and executive director Kan Sze Man. A graduate of New York University, Jasmine Chung first joined CSI in 2017 and is responsible for driving corporate development strategy, according to the company statement.

Terence Ji VansekLong-time China Vanke executive Terence Ji is now a managing director with Vansek Fund in Shenzhen, according to a LinkedIn update, where he leads the China real estate investment joint venture set up by Vanke and Singapore’s Temasek Holdings. Ji takes on his latest role after more than six years at Vanke, where he served most recently as managing partner for capital markets for the company’s southern China business unit. He also has previous experience with CapitaLand in China.

Tommy Fu Townsend GroupTommy Fu has joined the Townsend Group in Hong Kong as a vice president with the fund management firm, according to a LinkedIn update. Fu signed up with Townsend after more than five years with Manulife Investment Management in the city, where he had worked as an associate director with the Asia Real Estate Investments team. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology graduate also has previous experience with Jianhui Capital and Tianli Financial Holdings in the city.

John Liu Silk RoadJohn Liu has joined SilkRoad Property Partners in Singapore as director of research with the real estate fund manager. Liu took on his new role recently after more than six years with Savills in Singapore, where he had served as an associate director with the research and consultancy team, according to LinkedIn. The National University of Singapore graduate also has previous experience with DTZ Debenham Tie Leung (now part of Cushman & Wakefield).

Keith Chan LWKKeith Chan has been promoted to design director with LWK and Partners in Hong Kong after spending nearly six years with the architecture firm as an associate director, according to a LinkedIn update. A graduate of both the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London and of the Architectural Studies program at the University of Hong Kong, Chan also has previous experience as an associate director at Benoy.

Gareth-Fraser ColliersColliers said on 17 April that it has promoted Gareth Fraser to chief executive of its New Zealand business, where he will be responsible for the ongoing development of the company’s business in the country. With Fraser’s ascension to the CEO role, Mark Synott has been promoted to executive chairman for the company, where he will continue to guide the business. Both appointments take effect from 1 May.

Kunal Chabra ColliersIn another Colliers move, Kunal Chhabra has been promoted to director with the company’s office service team in Bengalaru, India, according to a LinkedIn update. Chhabra takes on his new role after just one year as a senior associate director with Colliers’ team in the Karnataka state tech hub and has now been with the property consultancy for more than four and a half years. Chhabra also has previous experience with Knight Frank and Servcorp.
