Mingtiandi’s first review of personnel moves for the month of September starts out with a top level appointment at a Malaysia fund and one of Japan’s largest developer’s making a senior hire in Singapore. Also on the list are a pair of moves at CapitaLand Group and an M&A hire by Hong Kong’s richest man.
The board of Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund on 26 August announced the appointment of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Zuki bin Ali as the new chairman of the EPF with effect from 1 September 2024. Mohd Zuki replaces Tan Sri Ahmad Badri bin Mohd Zahir at the helm of the Malaysian fund after previously serving as the 15th chief secretary to the Malaysian government. Ahmad Badri had held the EPF chairman role since May 2020.
Gabriella Aram Woo has joined Mitsubishi Estate in Singapore as an executive director with the Japanese development giant, according to an update to her LinkedIn profile. Charged with capital raising and business development for the real estate arm of one of Japan’s largest conglomerates, Woo takes on her new role after more than three years with Savills Investment Management in Singapore, where she had served as a director with responsibility for business development in Asia Pacific.
The manager of CapitaLand China Trust announced to the Singapore stock exchange on 23 August that it has appointed Gerry Chan Kin Leong as deputy chief executive officer of the REIT, with effect from 1 September. Chan takes on his role with the SGX-listed trust of mainland China properties after serving as managing director for REIT investments with CapitaLand’s Ascott Residence Trust Management. He has been with CapitaLand Group since 2011.
CapitaLand’s chief executive officer for retail and workspace, Chris Chong, has left the company after more than six years, according to a statement on his LinkedIn page. Chong has not yet commented on his next steps after leading CapitaLand’s asset management and digital platforms for retail and workspace in Southeast Asia. The veteran retail executive also has previous experience with YTL Starhill Global REIT and Itochu International.
Li Ka-shing’s CK Asset Holdings has hired Bank of America Corporation’s former co-head of financial sponsors for Asia Pacific, Ken Leung, according to a Bloomberg update late this past week. Leung is expected to help lead mergers and acquisitions at the Hong Kong-listed developer, per the news report, which cited persons familiar with the hire. With Leung’s departure, Adnan Meraj is now the sole head of Bank of America’s financial sponsors group for the region.
Consulting firm Alvarez and Marshall has hired former Accenture executive Zhu Wei to help lead its business in northern Asia, according to a statement by the company. The restructuring specialist has named Zhu managing director and co-head of its North Asia unit, covering multiple sectors. During China’s property crisis Alvarez and Marshall have been engaged by a number of major developers following credit defaults to help lead restructuring efforts.
Troy Tan has been promoted to senior director and head of China project management services with Savills, according to a LinkedIn update. Based in Shanghai, Tan takes his step up after more than eight years with the property consultancy, where he had previously served as a director with the same department. The graduate of Shanghai’s Tonji University has now been with Savills since 2011.
With Malaysia becoming a major regional hub for digital infrastructure investment Kent Seet has been promoted from senior manager straight to director with JLL’s data centre advisory team, according to a LinkedIn update. Seet has now been with the property consultancy in Kuala Lumpur for six years with the graduate of the Bachelor of Real Estate program at the UK’s University of Reading having worked his way up from an internship role.
