A senior change at a Hong Kong-listed developer leads this week’s review of personnel moves from around Asia Pacific, with major updates from Standard Chartered and JP Morgan Asset Management also making the list.
CSI Properties Ltd announced to the Hong Kong stock exchange on 7 February that its chief financial officer, Chow Hou Man has stepped down with effect from that day, due to adjustments in his work arrangements. Chow’s CFO role has been taken over by company’s deputy chief financial officer, Janet Wong Ho Yee, who had served in the deputy slot since 2014. CSI had announced on 2 February that it would raise a total of HK$1.5 billion in new equity capital from a rights issue backed by Gaw Capital Partners. Chow will continue to serve as an executive director on CSI’s board.
Standard Chartered PLC announced to the Hong Kong stock exchange on 4 February that it has appointed Maria Ramos to succeed Jose Vinals as group chair with effect from 8 May this year. Vinyls is nearing the end of his nine-year term at the helm of the UK bank, with Ramos, now 65, having served as an independent, non-executive director on Standard Chartered’s board since 2021.
JP Morgan Asset Management has promoted Kaguya Komatsu to chief executive officer for its Japan business, naming the company’s first female boss in the country. According to a company statement, Komatsu will take on her new role on 1 March after having served as head of the company’s funds and institutional business for Japan. The 14-year company veteran is taking over the CEO role from Shoichi Okoshi, who is being moved up to chairman.
Lawrence Cheng has joined Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in Singapore as an executive director with its real estate finance division, according to a LinkedIn update. Cheng joins the Japanese banking giant from Standard Chartered, where he had served most recently as an executive director with the UK bank’s real assets group. In total the graduate of London’s Imperial College spent more than 15 years with Standard Chartered.
Samuel Tay has taken on the role of senior director with Qiddiya Investment Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, per a LinkedIn update. Tay joined the developer of Qiddiya City, an entertainment, sports and culture hub in the Kingdom, after more than two and a half years with IWG PLC, where he had served as senior vice president and head of real estate partnerships for Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.
US law firm Morgan Lewis has expanded its real estate practice in Japan, with the Philadelphia-based organisation announcing on 3 February that it has brought on board Gerald Fujii (pictured) and Naoki Ueyama as partners in its Tokyo office. Fujii’s expertise is in real estate transactions, according to a company statement, while Ueyama focuses on financing and investment.
Knight Frank this past week announced William Lau as its new senior director and head of residential agency for Hong Kong, with the appointment taking effect from 3 February. Reporting to Paul Hart in his new role, Lau joins Knight Frank from local agency Centaline, where he had served as deputy regional sales manager. The 20-year industry veteran also has previous experience with Qfang Property Agency.
Wing Yan Chang has been promoted to head of project management with Colliers in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Chang received her upgrade this month after more than a year as senior project and sales manager with the same department, with the University of Newcastle graduate having now been with Colliers in the city for nearly three years after earlier stints with JLL in Taipei and with Turner & Townsend in Singapore.
Thomas Rooney has been promoted to associate director with Savills in Hanoi after more than three years as a senior manager with the property consultancy’s industrial services team in the Vietnamese capital, according to a LinkedIn update. Specialising in assisting multinational companies with their manufacturing and logistics space requirements, Rooney also advises on acquisition after nearly eight years with Savills in the country.
