Asia Real Estate People in the News 2023-10-09

The resignation of a veteran Hong Kong executive from a trio of directorships leads this week’s review of personnel moves from around the region, with leadership changes at Keppel Infrastructure Trust and Shenzhen’s Logan Group also making the list.

Chew Fook Aun - Lai SunChew Fook Aun has resigned from his roles as deputy chairman and non-executive director of Lai Sun Garment, Lai Sun Development and Lai Fung Holdings, according to a joint statement to the Hong Kong exchange by the three related companies on 28 September. Now 61 years old, Chew left all three companies on 1 October after having served on their boards since 2012. He is said to be departuing to pursue personal interests.

Kevin Neo KeppelThe manager of Keppel Infrastructure Trust has promoted Kevin Neo Tzu Chao to chief executive officer with effect from 1 October, the SGX-listed REIT announced to the exchange on 2 October. Now 43, Neo had served as deputy CEO since June of this year after spending several months as its head of investments. Having first joined the REIT manager in 2016, Neo replaced Jopy Chiang Chang, who stepped down to take on other duties with Keppel Group.

Zhou Ji - LoganDefaulting mainland developer Logan Group informed the Hong Kong exchange on 3 October that it has appointed Zhou Ji (pictured) and Chen Yong as executive directors on its board with effect from that same day. Zhou is responsible for operation management of the Shenzhen-based developer, including risk management and legal affairs, while Chen looks after offshore capital and financial management for the company. Logan is currently the target of a winding-up petition in Hong Kong after defaulting on its offshore credit obligations.

Jeffrey Ng CapitalandCapitaLand Malaysia Trust informed the Kuala Lumpur bourse on 29 September that it had appointed Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip as an independent, non-executive director from 1 October. Now 66, Ng had served as chief executive officer of Malaysia’s Sunway REIT until 30 June of this year and also now is a director on the board of local palm oil giant Ayer Holdings Berhad. Ng is also an advisor to the Malaysian REIT Managers Association.

rob wilkinson ColliersCBRE has hired Rob Wilkinson as a deputy managing director with its Korea business, according to a statement by Wilkinson on LinkedIn this past week. The veteran broker is joining CBRE in Seoul after more than 12 years with Colliers – having relocated to Korea to take on a managing director role there with Colliers in 2020. The University of Nottingham graduate also served with Colliers in Hong Kong.

jason zhangJason Zhang has been promoted to executive director with Cushman & Wakefield in Shanghai, where he continues to serve as head of China Outbound Investment, according to a LinkedIn update. Zhang took his step up recently after first joining the property consultancy in 2017 as a senior director. The UCLA graduate also has previous experience with Fosun, Merrill Lynch, UBS and NYSE-listed Xinyuan Real Estate.

Azaria Lee BenoyBenoy said this past week that it has promoted Azaria Lee to project director with its Singapore studio. Lee received her new title this month after more than nine years with the UK-based firm where she has worked on projects including Jewel Changi, Han Jardin in Hanoi and retailer David Jones’ flagship store in Sydney. The National University of Singapore graduate also has previous experience with Gensler, Swan and Maclaren and HOK.

matthew Cheng ColliersColliers announced this past week that it has made a pair of promotions in its Hong Kong office, promoting Matthew Cheng (pictured) to senior director with its capital markets and investment services team and upgrading Angus Luk to director with its valuation and advisory services team. The company also brought on board former JLL broker Cydon Choi as a senior associate director with its office leasing team.
