Special situations lead this week’s review of personnel moves from around Asia’s real estate industry as CapitaLand brings in a former Blackstone executive to bolster its private funds business. Another type of distress is evident in mainland China as a former investment banking star gets taken away by anti-corruption agents and a Singapore-listed REIT names a new CEO.

CapitaLand Investment announced on 14 August that it has hired Kishore Moorjani as chief executive officer for private funds to lead expansion of its private credit and special opportunities business. Based in Singapore, Moorjani spent 2012 through 2021 as a senior managing director with Blackstone where he led the fund manager’s tactical opportunities division for Asia. During Moorjani’s tenure Blackstone’s tactical opportunities business invested in projects including the Avery Lodge worker housing portfolio and a Sentosa residential venture with City Developments Ltd.

Ding Wei CICCMainland news outlet Caixin reported on 14 August that Ding Wei, formerly chairman of CICC Capital Management, has been taken away by anti-corruption authorities. Now 65, Ding led CICC Capital from 2017 through 2020 and also has previous experience with Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and as head of Temasek Holdings China. CICC Capital Management executive An Yuan also is said to now be held by authorities.

Cheng Hsing YuenSasseur Asset Management announced to the Singapore stock exchange on 14 August that it has appointed as chief executive officer of the company with effect from 29 October. The move is the second promotion in less than three months for Cheng, 59, after the seven-year company veteran first joined the manager of SGX-listed Sasseur REIT in 2018. Sasseur REIT, which manages a portfolio of Chinese outlet malls, said in May that its CEO, Cecilia Tan, would be leaving in October.

Darren Loh ColiwooSingapore’s biggest co-living operator is on track for a public listing in the coming months, and one of the company’s senior executives is also moving up. Darren Loh, chief strategy officer with Coliwoo since 2024 was named chief operating officer at the division of LHN Group with effect from last month, according to a LinkedIn update. Loh has now been with Coliwoo since 2021 and also has previous experience with Singapore Press Holdings and Far East Orchard.

Stephen Fung China South CityChina South City announced to the Hong Kong stock exchange on 11 August that Stephen Fung Sing Hong had stepped down from his role as non-executive director with the company the previous day. The announcement came on the same day that the Shenzhen state-backed developer informed investors that Hong Kong’s High Court had ordered the company to be wound up, following a petition from creditors.

Mainland property developer Landsea Green Management said on 15 August that Zhou Kunpeng has resigned as chairman and executive director of the company from that same date. Zhou had held the chairman role and served on the board since December of last year, with the company having appointed Zhang Chenlong, 47, deputy general manager of its Nanjing division to take over Zhou’s roles.

Chris PilgrimUK property consultancy Avison Young announced on 11 August that it has appointed Chris Pilgrim as principal, managing director and UK head of capital markets. Previously based in London and Singapore as managing director of global capital markets for Asia Pacific with Colliers, Pilgrim is expected to bring a “global-first” approach to leading Avison Young’s UK capital markets team, the company said.
