Asia Real Estate People in the News 2019-11-04

In this week’s edition of Mingtiandi’s People in the News, the data centre arm of Sun Hung Kai Holdings makes a trio of boardroom appointments, while a Hong Kong-based tech company hires a tokenisation specialist as chief commercial officer.

In other people moves around the region, a former LimeTree Capital Partners director relocates to Lazard’s Singapore office, and there are also appointments at Colliers and JLL.

Martin Chan has been named as an executive director of SUNeVision, the data centre arm of property giant Sun Hung Kai Properties, according to a stock exchange announcement. Chan has been the chief operating officer of the company since 2015 after joining the company seven years ago. Prior to his time at Sunevision, Hong Kong Polytechnic graduate had served in telecommunications company PCCW’s information technology division for 22 years, including as a senior vice president of Powerbase Data Centre division from 2002 until 2012.

Fiona Lau has also been appointed as an executive director of SUNeVision. Lau has served as the commercial director of the data centre subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties since 2018 after joining the developer in 2017 as head of business and investor relations. Prior to that, the University of Chicago graduate had served as a director at BlackRock Asset Management (North Asia) from 2010 and 2017 following five years as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company.

Lily Cheng has been appointed as an independent non-executive director at SUNeVision, the subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Properties that specialises in developing data centres. Cheng is the founder of Hubel Labs Limited, a virtual R&D software lab focusing on AI-related applications. Prior to starting up Hubel, Cheng had served as Tripadvisor’s APAC president and as a senior director of global strategy and marketing for Expedia. Cheng is an independent non-executive director of Swire Properties, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery and Octopus Cards.

Techstars mentor Philip Pang has been appointed as chief commercial officer at tokenisation company Liquefy after parting ways with Colliers International. Pang had served as an associate director at Colliers for almost seven years following a two-year stint with flexible office provider Compass Offices. The Henley Business School graduate is also an advisor to Genesis Block HK, an over-the-counter digital assets trading platform.

Joyce Lo has been hired as a director at NYSE-list investment bank Lazard in Singapore after parting ways with LimeTree Capital Partners where she had served as a director in Hong Kong for almost three years. Prior to that, Lo had served as a director for London-based private equity firm Palmer Capital Asia from 2014 until 2017 and as a senior vice president at PGIM between 2011 and 2014.

Lee Pei Yee has been hired as an associate director in Colliers’ valuation and advisory services team in Singapore, reporting to executive director of valuation and advisory services Govinda Singh. Lee joins Colliers from SilverNeedle Hospitality where she had served as a senior manager in the business analytics department for just over two years. Prior to that, Lee had served as a director in the investment management division of Hua Hong Foundation Investment in 2017 and as a financial executive officer at Hospitality Asset Management from 2012 until 2017.

Noah Kwok has been promoted to manager with the markets team at JLL Hong Kong, after serving for a year and a half as a negotiator on the same team. Prior to that, the University of Hong Kong graduate had undertaken a graduate traineeship in the company’s property management and Hong Kong markets departments between 2017 and 2018. Between 2014 and 2015, Kwok had done two internships at Cushman & Wakefield – in the research department and also in the valuation and advisory services team.
