Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-06-15

In this week’s edition of People in the News, Shanghai-based Qingke promotes a company director to COO as the apartment rental start up , while a well-known Hong Kong real estate leader launches a new investment firm for popular travel cities across the globe.

In another significant move in China, Shui on Land promoted a top executive to commercial director and Guangdong-based Country Garden Group saw its VP and GM of the international and special business unit leave.

The week also saw Link Asset Management’s CEO take on a new a university teaching gig and a leasing manager from China Resources Land move to L’Avenue International Holdings.

ivan ko victoria harbourIvan Ko has taken on the role of CEO for Victoria Harbor Group, an international charter city investment company which he co-founded in Hong Kong with Dr Simon Shen. Ko began the new role in May while continuing his 16-year run as chairman of Hong Kong-based RECAS Group, a real estate fund manager that specializes in large-scale development. A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, Ko was the Founding Chairman and Chairman of the Hong Kong and international chapter of the China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce from 2012 to 2018.

Qu Chengcai QingkeApartment rental giant Qingke has appointed Chengcai Qu as its COO, effective 12 June. Qu takes on his new role after serving as a director of the company since earlier this year, after joining Qingke in 2013 as a vice president. The NASDAQ-listed firm is making the leadership change as it comes under scrutiny from mainland authorities for questionable loan practices amid reports of unpaid bills. Qu replaces Zhaochun Zheng, who will remain with Qingke as a director.

clarence lee shui onClarence Lee has been promoted to Commercial Director with developer Shui On Land in Shanghai. The Hong Kong native takes his step up just less than two years after joining the developer of the fabled Xintiandi complex as General Manager of its Taipingqiao Project. Lee had earlier worked for Swire Properties as General Manager of Leasing and Management for the company’s HKRI Taikoo Hui joint venture with Hong Kong Resorts International from 2013 to 2018, following a stint with Kerry Properties in Shanghai and a decade with Swire in Beijing and Hong Kong.

Chen Bin Country GardenChen Bin has left Country Garden Group, relinquishing his role as General Manager and Vice President with the Guangdong-based developer, according to a report in mainland real estate website Guandian. The report did not provide a reason for his departure and said attempts to reach the company for comment went unanswered. Chen, who joined Country Garden in 2012, served most recently as the group’s vice president and the general manager of its international and special business unit.

Link Asset Management CEO George HongchoyThe University of Hong Kong has added Link Asset Management CEO George Hongchoy to its roster of adjunct professors at the school’s Department of Real Estate and Construction. In addition to the new academic position, the banker turned REIT manager will remain in his role at the top of Link Asset Management, where he’s been CEO since May 2010. Hongchoy is also a trustee at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his MBA degree in 1991.

chris deng lavenueChris Deng has joined L’Avenue International Holdings in Shanghai as an assistant leasing and operations manager with the Hong Kong-based investment firm controlled by Angelea Leung, after two years as a leasing manager with China Resources Land. The Chongqing University alumnus also previously worked as a assistant manager in the retail division at property consultancy Savills in Shanghai from November 2015 to May 2018.
