Asia Real Estate People in the News 2019-07-15

In this week’s edition of People in the News, the chairman of Evergrande Life resigns after three years with the Shenzhen-based developer’s insurance division, while the general manager of Vanke’s struggling long-term lettings business also says goodbye.

In other fresh moves around the region, there are new appointments in asset management, marketing, and design at property agent Knight Frank, PropertyGuru, and BMW.

Evergrande Life vice chairman Chen Jie has resigned after six months in his position with the insurance division of the property giant China Evergrande Group, according to a local media report. Chen had been appointed to temporarily oversee the business of the company, which had been known as Great Eastern Life Assurance (China) Co Ltd, until Evergrande took a controlling stake in 2014. Prior to joining the Shenzhen-based company, the fifty-four year old had served as a director of Chongqing Insurance Regulatory Bureau for five years, having joined the China Insurance Regulatory Commission in 1988.

Xue Feng, general manager of China Vanke’s rental apartment division has, according to a stock exchange announcement by the developer, where he had been the general manager of the long-term apartment lettings business since May. Xue had been appointed to the role with the Shenzhen-based firm’s multi-family division after being transferred from his post as general manager of Guangzhou Vanke, a job change which came just four months after he had left Xiamen Vanke Real Estate in January. Vanke said in a statement that the residential rental division is being reorganised under the leadership of Sun Jia, chief executive officer of the company’s southern China unit.

Tan-Tee-KhoonTan Tee Khoon has been hired by PropertyGuru as its country manager for Singapore, after parting ways with Knight Frank where he served as head of residential project marketing for Singapore as well as key executive officer of the property agent’s luxury residential agency arm in the city, Property Network. In his new role for PropertyGuru, Tan is a member of the group’s executive leadership team and leads sales in Singapore. The Chartered Institute of Marketing fellow had been responsible for business growth in Knight Frank’s luxury residential subsidiary, with the unit doubling in size under his management.

Mingfa Group (International) has named Liu Yuwei as an executive director of the Hong Kong-based property developer, according to a stock exchange announcement. With 20 years of financial management and compliance experience, Liu has served previously as an executive president of Beijing Yongda Certified Tax Agent Company Limited, the general manager of Xiamen Chuhan Tax Agency and Xiamen Chuhan Accounting, as well as serving as a consultant for real estate enterprises including Jianming (Xiamen) Real Estate Development, Tai’an Hengdi Yudou Real Estate Development and Nanzhong Investment Group (Xiamen).

Ingrid Zhu has been appointed as a director in Vanke‘s Shanghai-based asset management team. Zhu was formerly a principal with private equity investment firm KKR from July 2016 until December 2018, and served as a director of investment and asset management at Ivanhoé Cambridge for six years starting in 2010. Prior to a brief period as a regional manager with Tesco, the Tongji University Architecture graduate was an R&D and design manager for Longfor from 2008 to 2009, and a deputy design manager for Shui On Land from 2003 until 2008.

Ivy Sun has been hired by BMW as a senior manager in the company’s APAC real estate transaction division in Shanghai, after parting ways with Continental where she had been a senior manager for APAC real estate for almost a year. Sun was a senior transaction manager for CBRE in Shanghai from 2017 until 2018, and served as a real estate manager for Honeywell for three years from 2013 to 2016. Prior to this, the Shanghai University graduate was an account manager for Colliers International between 2012 and 2013 after seven years as an assistant manager at JLL.

Taras Paliuga has been appointed as a senior interior designer at Ben Yeung & Associates in Guangzhou responsible for shopping mall concept design, according to an update to his LinkedIn account. Paliuga takes on his new role in the capital of Guangdong province after serving nearly a year as a designer with Mi2 Interior Design and Architecture. Prior to this, Paliuga served as a senior interior designer with J2-Design Houhua Consultant Design between 2017 and 2018. Before re-locating to China, the interior design graduate of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University worked as a furniture designer and interior designer, mainly in Ukraine, for twelve years.

Sara Wong has been appointed as an international property broker in the London property team at Cushman and Wakefield. Before joining the property agent, Wong served as a subscription sales executive for LexiNexis, a provider of legal and business content to industry professionals for nearly a year and a half. The University of Hong Kong graduate also undertook a three-month internship at Michael Page in 2017, where she focused on serving financial services clients.
