Asia Real Estate People in the News 2019-09-23

In this week’s edition of People in the News, JLL says goodbye to its head of valuation advisory services in Asia and Greater China, while Colliers prepares to welcome the outgoing professional services chief, according to market sources who spoke with Mingtiandi.

In other fresh moves around the region, the former CEO of Ascendas-Singbridge Korea will take up the CIO role at South Korea’s Teachers Pension later this month, pending regulatory checks.

There were also appointments at Phoenix Property Investors, JLL, and Wheelock Properties.

C K Lau has been hired as the head of Colliers International’s valuation and advisory services division in Asia, and is expected to take up his new position in December, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to Mingtiandi. Lau parted ways with JLL last month after more than 30 years with the firm, most recently serving as the head of JLL’s valuation advisory services in Asia and Greater China. The former JLL chief will be replacing David Faulkner, who will be resigning from his position at the end of the year after 16 years with the company.

Kyuhong Lee has been named as the chief investment officer of the $16 billion South Korea’s Teachers Pension, stepping into the role that was vacated last month when CIO Dae-yang Park moved to Korea Investment Corporation, according to a report in The Korea Economic Daily. Lee will take up his new position later this month, pending background checks. The pension fund’s new hire had previously served as the CEO of Ascendas-Singbridge Korea in 2018, following four and a half years as CIO of Seoul-based NH-Amundi Asset Management. Prior to this, Lee had served as CIO of the Korea office of Prudential’s asset management business in Asia, Eastspring Investment.

Beatrice Hsi has been appointed as a vice president and director of leasing at private equity firm Phoenix Property Investors’ Shanghai office. Hsi had previously served as a senior vice president at JustCo from September 2018 until April 2019, following over three years as an executive director of asset management at PAG. Prior to this, the University of Texas at Arlington graduate had served as a director of office asset management for China at Gaw Capital from 2013 until 2015.

Jon Abel has been appointed as a programme manager for APAC at Savills in Hong Kong, after parting ways with Gemini Personnel where he had served as the managing director of the Hong Kong office since 2018. The change management specialist had previously served as a senior business manager at fintech startup Oddup in 2018, following over three years as a  change management consultant in London for Moorhouse.

Michaela Rihova has been appointed as a business development manager at Blink Design Group in Hong Kong, after parting ways with architecture practice Alt-254 where she had served as a business development manager for one year. Prior to this, Rihova had served as an area manger for APAC at lighting design firm Flos for just over a year and as a business development manager at LRF Designers between 2015 and 2017. The graduate of the University of Economics in Prague had also served as a business development executive for Preciosa Lighting from 2013 until 2014.

Jason Liu has been appointed as a director in JLL’s Beijing office, after parting ways with Colliers. Liu had served as a director at Colliers for six and a half years, following just over a year as the China representative of Colliers International for Brazil. The China University of Mining and Technology graduate had also worked as an associate biostatistician at Quintiles from 2010 until 2011.

Eric Chu has been hired as a property development officer for Wheelock and Company in Hong Kong, after leaving JLL where he had served as a manager and analyst in valuation advisory services since 2017. Prior to this, the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate had served as an assistant valuer at Savills for two years, following a management traineeship at the London-listed property services firm.

Edwin Kwan has been promoted to architectural designer at architecture and design firm Aedas in Hong Kong. Kwan has stepped up to his new position after more than three years as an architectural assistant. The Chinese University of Hong Kong graduate had previously served for the firm as an architectural graduate from 2012 until 2014.
