CHINA REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS IN THE NEWS 2014-06-16

This week we have Hong Kong executives joining Thai investment firms, more old hands signing up with Fosun, and a flurry of promotions and new gigs for our friends in Singapore, Shenzhen and Beijing. Read on for more details.

Bosco LeungBosco Leung is now senior vice president for mall operations with Chia Tai Commercial Development Corporation, based in Beijing. Leung joins the subsidiary of Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand (CP) Corporation after spending five years with Shenzhen-listed developer, Yangguang Co Ltd as the company’s general manager for retail asset management. The New York-educated native of Hong Kong also previously worked with retail developer Hang Lung of Hong Kong, as well as with Savills.

Joseph Wang FosunJoseph Wang has joined Shanghai-based investment group Fosun as Executive Director for Tourism and Commercial. Wang joins the fast-growing private firm from Insite Commercial Development Fund where he most recently served as the Fund’s general manager, while also serving as the Vice President of Strategy & Investment for Insite’s asset management group from 2011 until last month.

Jonathan McCallJonathan McCall has joined regional logistics real estate investment firm The Redwood Group as Investment & Strategy Integration Manager based in Shanghai. Based in China for more than four years, while in the US McCall was part of BlackRock’s commercial real estate fund management team where he was involved in all aspects of fund management including fund raising, site selection, underwriting, asset level strategy and lease execution.

Luqi Liu Glory LandLuqi Liu joined Glory Land last month as Development & Financing Commissioner with the Foshan-based subsidiary of developer Shui On Land. Prior to taking on her new role with Glory Land, Liu had spent more than a year with real estate consultancy Savills in Shenzhen, after returning from studies in the UK. While overseas, Liu earned a Masters in Real Estate Science from the University of Aberdeen.

Clarence Choy has been promoted to deputy general manager for commercial asset management at Shanghai Mapletree Management. The step up for Choy comes after he had spent more than two years as senior associate director for commercial and residential asset management with the Shanghai subsidiary of the Singaporean real estate investment firm. Choy also previously served with Merrill Lynch and Harvest Capital Partners before joining Mapletree.

Shuo Qi Lanson PlaceShuo Qi is now senior development manager with Lanson Place Hospitality Management, based in Beijing. Shuo joins the Hong Kong-based hospitality developer and manager after spending four years in a succession of roles with property consultancy JLL in Beijing, where he started his career after graduating from the Capital University of Economics and Business. In his most recent role with JLL, Shuo served as a senior associate in the company’s hotels and hospitality group.

Alex He ColliersAlex He is now a manager at Colliers International in Beijing where he works in the company’s valuation department. He joins the property consultancy from rival CBRE, where he previously had spent more than one year with the valuation team there. Continuing our theme of Chinese people being lured to Scotland by the promise of an international level education, He has a master’s degree in finance from the University of St. Andrews, which he joined after studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.

Kyle ZengKyle Zeng is now an investment manager local private equity firm Everassion based in Shanghai. Zeng joins the real estate-focused investment management company after completing his masters degree in real estate from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School in the US. While still a student, Zeng spent three months with DTZ’s investment department in Guangzhou and also had internships at Capital First Partners and Shuion Land.

Jerry Gao Lei SavillsJerry Gao Lei is now a marketing executive with real estate consultancy Savills in Singapore, having joined the real estate consultancy this month after spending several months utility Singapore Power Ltd performing valuation and transaction services. The role with Savills is the second time that Gao has worked with the UK-based agency, having interned with the company’s Beijing research team in 2009-2010 while a student at National University of Singapore.
