Asia Real Estate People in the News 2019-08-05

In this week’s edition of People in the News, Singapore’s UOL Group has announced that Frasers Hospitality’s former chief executive officer will be taking up a new role at UOL Group subsidiary Pan Pacific Hotels Group, after 23 years with Panote Sirivadhanabhakdi’s property company.

In other fresh moves around the region, developer Beijing Capital Development has replaced its chairman, and Colliers International has appointed a chief executive officer of global occupier services, while Warburg Pincus-backed Weave Co-living has hired a chief experience officer.

Choe Peng Sum has been named chief executive officer of Pan Pacific Hotels Group. Choe, who will take up his role with the subsidiary of UOL Group on 1 September, will be responsible for the operations of the group’s hotels and serviced apartments, marketing and brand standards, as well as business development for the Pan Pacific and Parkroyal brands, according to a stock exchange announcement. Currently a senior advisor for Frasers Property, Choe had served as the chief executive officer of Frasers Hospitality from 1996 until this year.

Li Yan has been appointed as chairman of Shanghai-listed Beijing Capital Development, replacing Pan Liqun who had served as chairman and acting general manager of the Beijing-based developer since 2017. Li, who had joined Beijing Capital Development as a general manager three years ago, had also served as the company’s vice chairman since December 2016. Executive director Pan Gangsheng replaces Li as the company’s general manager.

Scott Nelson has been appointed as chief executive office of global occupier services for Colliers International, after ten years as president of occupier services for the Americas. In his new role, Nelson will focus on driving better service to clients, while growing multi-market transactions and project engagements globally. Prior to his time at the property services consultancy, Nelson had served as a principal for over six years with GVA Advantis following nearly a decade with Equis Corporation as a senior vice president.

Alex Ong has been promoted to regional programme manager for Asia Pacific with JLL in Singapore, after two years as a senior project manager for the property consultancy. Prior to joining JLL, Ong had worked as an account lead for DBS Bank for just over a year and a half, after having served as a director in the project management division of Cushman and Wakefield in 2016. The Singapore-based executive also has experience with facilities services company ISS as a senior manager from 2012 until 2016 and in various space planning and project management roles for Barclays from 2007 to 2016.

Faustine Zhu has been hired as a director in Shanghai for JLL, after parting ways with CBRE where she had been an associate director for nine years. Prior to her time with CBRE, Zhu had served as a valuer for DTZ from 2009 until 2010. A holder of a bachelor’s degree in real estate economics and management from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Zhu also holds a master’s degree in business administration from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. 

Madelon de Grave has been named as Weave Co-living’s chief experience officer. De Grave, who is the founder of Hong Kong-based art venture Bamboo Scenes, leads a team of experience officers at the Warburg Pincus-backed shared housing provider. Prior to her work with Bamboo Scenes, de Grave served as a manager of the Hive between 2016 and 2017. A holder of a bachelor’s degree in international business administration and a master’s degree in supply chain management, both from the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University, she is also an ambassador for nonprofit Tess Unlimited. 

Kathy Hu has made the step up to associate director at Savills in Shenzhen after over two years as a senior manager in the property services company’s Beijing office. Prior to joining Savills, Hu had worked as an assistant manager of client sales for Beijing-based human resources company FESCO from 2014 until 2017 and as an assistant to the sales director at jewellers Chopard from 2013 to 2014.
