Asia Real Estate People in the News 2018-04-09

At the top of this week’s people moves, a co-founder and former CEO of mainland developer Greentown has stepped down, while a real estate private equity pro is rejoining SC Capital Partners in Singapore. In the agency world, Knight Frank has welcomed a new head of China research from a rival brokerage and a leasing specialist at CBRE has upgraded his title as he heads to Shanghai. There’s news in the co-working sector too, so keep reading for all the details.

Shou Bainian has resigned as an executive director of Greentown China Holdings, the mainland residential builder he co-founded, and is selling his shares in the company according to an announcement. Shou, who was ranked #278 on Forbes’ 2013 China rich list, resigned as chief executive of Greentown in June 2015, and was succeeded by Cao Zhounan. The latest move completes Shou’s retirement after 20 years of involvement in the company.

Jun Kang Tan has rejoined Singapore-based private equity firm SC Capital Partners to take the role of Director this month, after spending just over a year as Vice President (Real Estate) of Chinese fintech firm CreditEase. Tan previously served as an Associate at SC Capital Partners, a manager of the Real Estate Capital Asia Partners (RECAP) series of opportunistic real estate funds, for nearly four years. The Chartered Financial Analyst has also worked at LaSalle Investment Management and BNP Paribas.

Carlby Xie has joined Knight Frank China as Director and Head of Research & Consultancy, according to an announcement. Xie previously led the China Research team at rival property brokerage Colliers, where he was known among his co-workers for his feisty attitude. Xie joined Colliers in Beijing in 2007, and has been based in Shanghai since 2013. Prior to joining Colliers, the holder of a master’s degree from Britain’s Oxford Brookes University had also worked at brokerage JLL.

Daniel Shwartzer has been promoted to Associate Director on the Advisory & Transaction Services, Office Occupier team of property consultancy CBRE this month, relocating from Beijing to Shanghai. Shwartzer, who joined CBRE in 2013, previously held the title of Manager. The fluent Mandarin speaker continues to work as a tenant representative on the company’s office leasing advisory team, in which role he develops and executes occupational strategies for Fortune 500 firms in Shanghai and across the Asia Pacific region.

Sophie So has been promoted to Head of HR, Greater China, for the Integrated Facilities Management division of JLL this month. Based in Hong Kong, So previously served as Local Director, HR of the team, having joined JLL in early 2013. The graduate of University College London has also held human resources roles at Kimberly Clark (Hong Kong), Bausch + Lomb, and BNP Paribas Fortis.

Natcha Taepongsorat has jumped to the front office at Colliers International Thailand, where she now works as a Senior Manager, based in Bangkok. After serving as a Marketing Manager at the property brokerage for over two years, Khun Natcha now has responsibility for joint venture deals, bid tender processes, feasibility studies and other projects. The University of Glasgow graduate also has previous experience at Design Link Architects in Singapore.

Julian Leung CampfireJulian Leung is now a Product Director at shared spaces operator Campfire Collaborative Services, after serving as Brand Strategist for two years. Founded in 2016, Campfire has six co-working locations in Hong Kong and one in London. Leung, who graduated Suffolk University in Boston, is based in Hong Kong and previously interned at apparel design firm Alvanon in New York City.
