Capital markets dominate this week’s people moves, with a seasoned real estate executive joining a Singaporean private equity firm as portfolio manager, and the CEO of a REIT manager stepping down. Darren Sabom has joined Singapore-based real estate private equity firm SC Capital Partners as Portfolio Manager. Prior to taking the job in the city-state, Sabom served as Head of Underwriting for APAC and Head of SE Asia Acquisitions at investment management firm Invesco Asia Pacific for over three years in Singapore, where he supervised the regional underwriting process and sourced investment deals across Southeast Asia. Sabom also has previous experience as a Vice President with international real estate investor Fine Grain Property in Singapore, after also serving as a VP of PM Realty Group in Houston Texas.
Alvin Cheng Yu-Dong is stepping down as Executive Director and CEO of EC World Asset Management, the manager of Singapore-listed EC World REIT. Cheng is leaving the trust manager less than a year after taking the role, “to pursue other professional interests,” according to a statement. The company’s board of directors says it has identified a new CEO candidate and will make the relevant announcement pending regulatory approval. Cheng was appointed CEO in April 2017, succeeding Lai Hock Meng, who had taken the trust public in 2016. Prior to joining the company as executive director and deputy CEO in January of last year, Cheng served as CEO of the managers of Lippo Malls Indonesia Retail Trust and Pacific Shipping Trust, respectively. Cheng also worked on the global management team of APL Logistics, after starting his career in the financial sector.
Fatima Echakir has taken the role of Director of Business Development at serviced office provider The Executive Centre, where she is responsible for office leasing and tenant acquisition based in Shanghai. Eckakir has pursued a career in marketing, business development and sales in Shanghai since 2007, most recently as a partner at AcrossHR&Business, which provides corporate service and human resources solutions for small and medium-sized firms. Prior to that, the holder of an international MBA from Shanghai Jiao Tong University was Director of Sales and Business Development at AsianBiz Resources Centers & Consulting Ltd.
Alvin Leung has switched teams at property consultancy JLL, taking the role of Associate Director of Hong Kong Capital Markets after serving as Associate Director of Valuation and Advisory Services since mid-2012. Leung is also chairman of the Hong Kong Board Matrics Committee of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which caters to young professionals in the field. He holds degrees from the University of Hong Kong and the University of Manchester.
Aaron Zhong has been promoted to Senior Project Manager at global design and consulting firm Arcadis, where he has served as Project Manager for over five years, delivering services to clients including Merck, China Life, Disney, and Porsche. Based in Shanghai, Zhong was previously a building electrical engineer at Aurecon and a facility engineer at JLL, after graduating from East China University of Science and Technology.
Royce Zhan has been promoted to Senior Research Specialist at Real Capital Analytics, stepping up from the role of Research Specialist which he has held since mid-2016. Prior to joining the real estate information provider, the National University of Singapore graduate worked in a variety of roles at Heineken, CapitaLand and CBRE Asia Pacific.
