Anthony Couse Named Asia Pacific CEO at JLL

Anthony Couse will take on his new role on June 1st

Property consultancy JLL announced a top level leadership change today, naming Anthony Couse of the company’s Shanghai office as the group’s new CEO for Asia Pacific, effective June 1st of this year. Couse will replace JLL’s current regional head, Alastair Hughes, who will be departing the company in July 2016, after serving as its APAC CEO since 2008.

The promotion is seen as recognition of Couse’s contribution in helping to build JLL into the market leader among international property consultancies and agencies in mainland China, as well as of the importance of the mainland market to the company’s long term plans.

“I am fortunate to have had a long and enjoyable career with JLL and now is the right time to hand on the mantle,” said Hughes. “It gives me great pleasure to know that the business will be in Anthony’s highly capable hands as the region continues to be a source of growth and momentum for the firm as a whole.”

Couse has served as JLL’s Managing Director of Shanghai and East China since 2006, and also currently holds the position of Head of Capital Markets for China. In his new role, Couse will report directly to JLL’s global president and CEO, Colin Dyer. While JLL has not yet commented on any relocation for Couse, the company makes its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore.

Both Couse and Hughes are long-time JLL hands that joined the company in the UK, with Couse starting with the firm in London in 1989, before relocating to Hong Kong in 1993. Hughes was a graduate trainee with JLL in London starting in 1988, and by 2004 was its CEO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, before taking his current role in 2008.
