Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-04-27

In this week’s edition of People in the News, China Vanke’s logistics arm has appointed a head of asset management in Shanghai, while the son of Hong Kong’s third richest man has added CEO to his set of titles at New World Development.

In other moves around the region, the CEO of Savills India has been appointed to the global management board of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and there were fresh moves at Link REIT, M Moser Associates, and the National University of Singapore.

adrian chengAdrian Cheng’s role at New World Development has been re-designated from executive vice chairman and general manager to executive vice chairman and CEO with effect from 1 May, according to a stock exchange announcement. The change in title comes just over two months after the Hong Kong property scion was named as executive chairman of New World Development’s mainland China arm, New World China Land. Cheng, whose 73-year-old father Henry Cheng is the property group’s chairman as well as being Hong Kong’s third richest man, joined the firm in 2006.

Anurag Mathur, the CEO of Savills India, has been appointed as a member of RICS’ management board. Prior to joining Savills as CEO in 2018, Mathur served as the regional and international director of JLL in India from 2012 to 2018, after 14 years with Cushman & Wakefield in India. As the founding member of Cushman & Wakefield in the country, he served as the firm’s managing director and country head in India between 2009 and 2012.

Zhi Li has been named head of asset management at Vanke Logistics Development Co Ltd in Shanghai, after over two and a half years as assistant to China Vanke’s CEO in Shenzhen. Prior to that, Li had served more than two years as an investment manager for the development heavyweight from 2015 to 2017. Before joining Vanke in 2015, Li, who holds dual Master’s degrees from the University of Southern California in Economics and Urban Planning, worked in various internship roles in both the private and public sectors in the US and China.

Nai Jia Lee has been appointed as deputy director of the National University of Singapore’s Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies, after parting ways with Knight Frank. Lee had served as the property consultant’s head of research for Singapore for almost two years, following three and a half years as a senior director of research at Edmund Tie & Company from December 2014 to June 2018. The National University of Singapore graduation had served previously as an assistant professor at the university between 2008 and 2014.

Amanda Cheung has been hired as a general manager of corporate branding and event management at Hong Kong’s Link REIT, after leaving Grosvenor Group in Hong Kong where she had served as a director for four and a half years in the marketing and communications in Asia team. Prior to joining the London-based property group, Cheung had served as a director at communications firm Edelman for ten years.

Sayaka Matsumoto ColliersSayaka Matsumoto has been promoted to senior associate director at Colliers International in Hong Kong, stepping up to her new role after one year as an associate director. Matsumoto originally joined the property consultancy in 2015 as an assistant manager. The Les Roches International School of Hotel Management graduate also previously served as a client service manager for London-based Regent Letting and Property Management in Hong Kong from 2012 to 2015.

Queenie Jiang has been appointed as an associate in the client services team at M Moser Associates in Hong Kong, after parting ways with Colliers. Jiang had served as a senior manager in client services and project management for the property consultant in the Asian financial hub from January 2019 to March 2020, following over eight years with CBRE, most recently as client solutions manager in the project management Pacific team in Sydney from 2016 to 2018.
