Life is returning to normal after the spring festival holiday and that means more new roles for the region’s property professionals. This week we see a veteran asset manager join up with a global financial giant, new leadership for Savills hotel division, and a pair of moves in real estate private equity. Read on for more details.
Doug Griffin has moved to HSBC’s Corporate Real Estate department, where he takes on the role of Regional Estates Manager, based in Hong Kong. Griffin’s new position with the global financial services provider comes after spending the last two and a half years with JLL in Hong Kong as Head of Asset Management for Greater China. Griffin also has prior experience with AIG Global Investment Group and Australia’s Macquarie Bank.
Annie Wang has joined Savills in Beijing as Director for China with the company’s hotels division. In her new role Wang will oversee the hotel business line for the UK-based real estate consultancy. Wang joins Savills from hospitality industry consulting firm HVS, where she had served for nearly two years, most recently as Managing Director. A native of Shanxi province and a graduate of the University of Surrey in the UK, Wang also has previous experience with CBRE’s hotel division in China, as well as with consulting firm Horwath.
Shawn Chen has been promoted to Partner with Sunyat Capital in Shanghai. Chen takes a step up with the Chinese private equity real estate firm just two years after joining from Singaporean real estate investment firm Ascendas. In his new role, Chen is responsible for Sunyat’s retail property fund and outbound fund business, as well as serving as an executive board director of the firm’s investment committee. The Fudan University graduate also has experience with Cushman & Wakefield, Fosun, Winnington Capital and Colliers International.
Ray Cao has been promoted to General Manager with business park developer Yida First City in Hangzhou. Cao’s new role is a step up from his former position with Yida, where he served as Business Director for South China under the company’s Dalian Software Park brand. Cao also has experience with Dalian Software Park in Shanghai, as well as in the company’s home office in the city of Dalian in Liaoning province.
Fangchao Dong has joined up with China Orient Ruichen Fund Management Co as a Senior Manager based in Shanghai. Dong joins the Chinese private equity firm from property agency CBRE where he had spent less than two years, most recently as Senior Analyst with responsibility for market research, development studies and proposal writing for projects including the master planning for the Shanghai Lingang Innovative Hub.
Gene Shi has joined Homelink Real Estate Agency in Beijing as President for International Operations. In his new position, Shi will be responsible for assisting local Chinese buyers with identifying and purchasing properties in the US, including on a group buying basis. Prior to joining Homelink, Shi served as Managing Director for International Operations with the Asian division of First American Title in San Francisco.
