This week China’s real estate community sees the top dog at a major US real estate investment manager depart, the latest defection from a Fortune 500 real estate service provider in Shanghai, and our usual crop of promotions and new gigs. Read on for all the details.

Calvin Chou Morgan StanleyIt was announced last week that Calvin Chou would be leaving his role as Managing Director and Head of Morgan Stanley Real Estate for Greater China and Southeast Asia. According to unconfirmed reports, the 16-year veteran of the US investment giant would be leaving the company sometime in the coming months.

Tom Zhang CBRETom Zhang has reportedly left his role as an Associate Director with CBRE’s office services team in Shanghai after more than three years, apparently to try his hand at entrepreneurship. With Zhang’s departure the Fortune 500 company’s office leasing department in Shanghai has now suffered an estimated 50 percent turnover in staff over the last 12 months. Next week Mingtiandi will share news of another senior level defection from the division which once accounted for around 35 percent of revenues for the property consultancy in eastern China.

Peter Zhang Knight FrankPeter Zhang has been promoted to Head of Commercial Services, Tenant Representation at Knight Frank in Shanghai. The 16-year veteran of Shanghai’s real estate industry joined the UK-based property consultancy in 2011 as Director of Commercial Services, after serving as an associate director with Cushman & Wakefield, and spending eight years with CBRE’s office services team.

Nicholas Chung JLLNicholas Chung has joined JLL as Associate Director for Transaction Management at the property services consultancy’s Shanghai office after spending nearly three years with competitor Knight Frank.
In his new role the Canadian native will be managing the HSBC Commercial Real Estate Portfolio in Greater China. In addition to his time at Knight Frank, Chung previously spent five years with Cushman & Wakefield in Shanghai.

frederic mortierFrédéric Mortier has joined Australia’s Macquarie Group in Hong Kong as an Associate Director after spending more than three years managing a mall project in Kunming, China. The China retail real estate advisor had earlier operated Retail Republic, a consulting firm based in Shanghai and previously was the Property Director for cafe chain Costa Coffee in China, as well as having served as Property Director with hypermarket operator Carrefour in China.

Steven Zhou BRCSteven Zhou has been promoted to General Manager in the Property Portfolio Management Center for developer BRC Group in Chengdu. Since joining the Sichuan-based real estate developer in February this year, Zhou had served as Assistant General manager with the company belonging property tycoon Yang Keng. Zhou previously had served for more than five years with JLL in Chengdu, most recently as an Associate Director.

Sabrina Li Cushman WakefieldSabrina Li has been promoted to Regional Program Manager at Cushman & Wakefield in Shanghai. Li’s step up from her former role as Senior Project Manager came after spending nearly four years with the US-based property consultancy. In her new role the graduate of Shanghai’s Donghua University will act as the primary communication link between the local project management team and the client. Before joining C&W Li had spent more than three years in the project management department at JLL.

As usual, if you know of other China real estate professionals changing their jobs, getting promoted or just doing something exciting, please feel free to share with the rest of the community here at Mingtiandi.
