While many of us have been sunning ourselves by the lake or winding our way through airport lines this August, the more industrious members of Asia’s team of real estate professionals continue to move on to new and bigger roles, including an oil and gas facility expert finding a new home at Rio Tinto, an investment broker going global, and a veteran office guy going corporate. Read on for all the details.
Bill Jones has joined minerals giant Rio Tinto in Singapore, as a Principal with responsibility for real estate matters. Jones, who has specialised in advising on real estate requirements for oil and gas companies for nearly 15 years, starts his new role with the British-Australian multinational this month after spending more than five years with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), including over four years as the RICS’ ASEAN head. Prior to joining the professional organisation in 2011, the graduate of Liverpool John Moores University also worked more than nine years with Royal Dutch Shell in both the UK and Singapore.
Neill O’Brien has moved up to the Regional Capital Markets team with JLL in Hong Kong, where he serves as an Associate Director advising investors on real estate strategies. O’Brien takes on the new role advising clients globally after spending less than two years with the consultancy’s Hong Kong-focused team. Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 2015, O’Brien also spent more than six years in Shanghai both with JLL and Knight Frank.
Martin Chavez is now Head of Corporate Solutions for China with DTZ/Cushman & Wakefield, based in Beijing. Chavez takes on his new director-level role leading the agency’s interface with multinational clients after serving as Head of Commercial Leasing for northern China at DTZ/Cushman & Wakefield, since before the merger of DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield last year. The graduate of Florida Atlantic University joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2012, after serving stints at both JLL and CBRE in Beijing.
Susie Zhang has joined flexible office start-up JustGroup as Assistant Sales Manager based in Singapore. The veteran serviced office executive takes on her new challenge after spending more than five years with Jumpstart Offices in Shanghai, most recently as Area Sales & Marketing Manager. JustGroup, which operates the JustOffice serviced office brand, as well as a growing number of JustCo co-working locations, recently began expanding its operations from Singapore into mainland China. In addition to Jumpstart, Zhang also has experience with Oasis Boutique Serviced Offices and The Executive Centre.
Samuel Zheng has been promoted to Manager with the Industrial and Logistics Services department at CBRE in Shanghai. Zheng takes his step up leasing and advising on warehouse and manufacturing facilities in eastern China just seven months after joining the agency as an assistant manager in February of this year. Prior to joining CBRE, Zheng also spent two years with Cushman & Wakefield and just over one year with Colliers International.
As usual, if you know of other China real estate professionals changing their jobs, getting promoted or just doing something exciting, please feel free to share with the rest of the community here at Mingtiandi.
