Australia’s build-to-rent sector continued to gain momentum through late 2025, with 15,089 units already operational and nearly 30,000 more under development across some 90 projects, according to advisory firm Franklin Street. With the market having experienced several years of rapid growth, MSCI data shows that trades of income-earning residential properties jumped 134 percent last year to A$8.2 billion ($5.8 billion) .
To better understand the economic forces driving take-up of new BTR projects, as well as the returns that investors are achieving and the outlook for future expansion of the industry, Mingtiandi has organised an expert panel dedicated to the sector to be held on 19 March.
The online discussion, which is sponsored by Yardi, will be streamed on Mingtiandi’s MTD TV platform at 10:00 AM Hong Kong time, and brings together top executives from Warburg Pincus-backed Kio Investment Management, Melbourne-based sustainable BTR specialist Model and industry intelligence provider MSCI.
Joining the talk from Kio will be founder and managing director Sam Bisla, as the company pushes forward with construction of its 286-unit flagship project in South Brisbane. From Model, founder and CEO Rory Hunter will be speaking after the company secured development approval for its first two projects in Melbourne, including an Abbotsford development which is set to be the city’s tallest residential timber tower.
From MSCI, the company’s head of private assets research for Pacific, Benjamin Martin-Henry, will be joining to share insights from Australia’s biggest-ever year for the BTR asset trades.
