During this past week, speakers from KKR, Rava Partners, Star Asia Group and UOB joined the growing list of industry experts set to speak at Mingtiandi’s Tokyo Forum on 12 November as Asia’s most successful series of real estate investment events continues to expand.
The new additions bring the roster of speakers for the full-day event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Tokyo to more than 20 industry leaders, after executives from AXA Investment Management, L Catterton Real Estate and UBS had signed up a week earlier.
With the event now just three weeks away, more than 130 industry professionals have confirmed their attendance for the forum, including professionals from Mitsubishi Estate, Mitsui & Co, Sumitomo Corporate Group, Mori Building and Japan Hotel REIT.
The event is expected to attract more than 200 attendees and tickets for the forum are still available at the link above. Hospitality Focus
With Japan’s hospitality sector continuing to be a top target for investors, David Cheong, a managing director with KKR who is co-head of acquisitions for the company’s Asia real estate team and Malcolm MacLean, co-founder and managing partner with Tokyo-based investment manager Star Asia Group are joining a panel on hotel and lodging investment, alongside Seth Sulkin, president and chief executive of Pacifica Capital KK and Gary Kwok, chief executive of Axe Management.

Joseph Gagnon, co-head of real estate investment manager Rava Partners is joining Chedli Boujellabia, managing partner and CEO of Alyssa Partners in a panel on residential investment in Japan, with other speakers to be named this week, as the country’s multi-family sector continues to benefit from robust fundamentals.
Joining a panel on Japanese REITs and private funds, is Atsushi Sato, head of the financial institution group for Japan with Singapore’s UOB with Hayato Tsuji, general manager with the real estate finance department at the Development Bank of Japan and Masakuni Taka, a senior director for investment with the private assets team at ORIX Life Insurance Corporation also taking part in that session.
A panel on Japan’s commercial markets features speakers from L Catterton, Tokyo Trust Capital, Mizuho Bank and ESG-solution provider Goyoh, while Unified Industrial co-founder Ross Antoci will be among the speakers in a session on Japan’s industrial real estate markets.
The forum kicks off with a keynote panel which provides an overview of market prospects from top-level leaders including Hajime Watanabe, president and representative director with UBS Japan Advisors and Laurent Jacquemin, Head of Asia Pacific for the real assets division of AXA IM Alts.
Spotlights on GLP, ESR, Deloitte Tohmatsu Group
In addition to the panel sessions, the Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum brings some of Japan’s most experienced real estate leaders to the stage for in-depth discussions of the market in spotlight interview sessions.
A spotlight interview session on opportunities in Japan’s life science and R&D real estate markets with Warburg Pincus principal, Tag Yuxiang; Lendlease Japan chairman and executive director for development partnerships, Andrew Gauci and Shigeko Mizutani, a managing director with the valuation advisory and consulting services division for Japan at CBRE.
In a one-on-one interview with Mingtiandi founder Michael Cole, Yoshiyuki Chosa, president for Japan at GLP Capital Partners will share lessons from his experience building one of the country’s premier industrial portfolios, as well as its plans for future development.
Also appearing in a spotlight session will be ESR co-founder Stuart Gibson, who will discuss how the developer and fund manager has adapted its Japan facilities to better serve occupiers and how it continues to develop its capital markets operation in the country to deliver returns for investors.
The forum will close with a spotlight interview with Tomoko Sakai, a tax partner with Deloitte Tohmatsu Tax Co; Kazutaka Inoue, a manager with Deloitte Tohmatsu Risk Advisory and Yuki Sakamoto, a partner with DT Legal Japan as the Deloitte Tohmatsu Group members highlight paths to business success in Japan’s real estate markets.
