Next week’s second annual Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum will feature a panel of experts to discuss Asia Pacific residential investment opportunities.

Third-quarter investment volume in APAC’s living segment shot up 304 percent year-on-year to $5 billion, led by Japan multi-family activity, according to JLL.

To explore the ongoing transformation of APAC housing markets, the all-day event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Tokyo will welcome senior leaders from Alyssa Partners, GreenFort Capital, Avatar Capital Partners and Arch Capital Management.

The forum takes place on Wednesday 5 November and consists of 11 sessions covering sectors including hospitality, residential, industrial and commercial, as well as featuring a panel on the growing role of Japanese capital globally. Tickets to the forum are available at the link above.

Art of Living

The residential panel features Chedli Boujellabia, the founder, managing partner and CEO of one of Japan’s most prolific multi-family investors, Alyssa Partners. The Tokyo-based firm looks after JPY 300 billion ($2 billion) in assets under management, including JPY 200 billion in multi-family AUM.

From Australia comes Adam Vaggelas, co-founder and partner at GreenFort Capital. Brisbane-based Greenfort’s living investments include a joint venture with Hong Kong’s Gaw Capital Partners to provide land lease communities for Australia’s growing senior population.

Angel Li, the founding partner of Avatar Capital Partners, joins the forum five months after her firm closed its inaugural fund with JPY 15.2 billion in committed capital, with the flagship vehicle primarily targeting multi-family assets in central Tokyo.

Arch Capital managing director Terence Lo rounds out the panel with insights into residential strategies at the Manulife-backed firm with $15.1 billion in assets under management.

Eight Days Away

The Mingtiandi Tokyo Forum is headlined by spotlight interviews with Takashi Murata, co-head of Asia Pacific real estate for Warburg Pincus and Andrew Burych, head of east Asia real estate for Brookfield Asset Management, with more than 20 speakers set to take the stage.

A third spotlight interview session will feature a team from Deloitte Tohmatsu Group to explore solutions to challenges facing global investors in the Japan market, with special insights into corporate buyout considerations for real estate investors.

To take a closer look at the megatrends driving Japan real estate, the event’s keynote panel will feature Alyssa’s Boujellabia; Calvin Chou, head of Asia Pacific at Invesco Real Estate; Michio Matsumoto, managing director and head of Japan at EQT Real Estate; Stanley Shen, executive director at TE Capital Partners; and Tokyo Trust chief executive Christopher Handte.

A panel on hospitality and tourism in Japan will bring together Suchad Chiaranussati, chairman and founder of SC Capital Partners; Abhijay Sandilya, managing director for Japan and Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts; Bryan Lee, founder and CFO of AB Capital Investment; and Gary Kwok, CEO and managing partner of Axe Management, for a look at opportunities linked to travel growth in Japan.

With Japanese investors playing a growing role in backing deals globally, a session on outbound capital will feature Sam Bisla, founder and managing director with Kio Investment Management; Christopher Garbe, managing partner at GARBE; and Hayato Tsuji, general manager with the real estate finance department at the Development Bank of Japan.
