Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-02-03

In this week’s edition of People in the News, the COO of property developer SM Prime Holdings’s mall management unit, which operates 81 malls in the Philippines and China, has stepped up to president of the company’s retail division.

In other moves around the region, JLL has appointed a pair of existing division leaders to co-head the company’s industrial services division in Shanghai, while Yardi has expanded its regional director of Asia’s role to include Australia and New Zealand. There were also promotions at SC Capital Partners and The Executive Centre.

Philippines-based property developer SM Prime Holdings has promoted Steven Tan to president of its mall management unit, which operates 74 malls in the Philippines and seven in China under the SM Supermalls brand. Tan is making the step up after serving for three years as the unit’s chief operating officer, in which role he has headed up the company’s retail offerings in both China and the Philippines. The Paris School of Management graduate joined SM Prime Holdings in 2004 as a manager.

Hong Yin has been appointed as co-head of JLL’s industrial services team for China, after serving for seven and a half years as senior director and head of manufacturing services for the mainland market. Yin, who will continue to be based in Shanghai, will be responsible for the manufacturing side of the firm’s industrial services. After originally joining JLL as an account manager in 2002, Yin had served as a local director and head of manufacturing services in Shanghai from 2009 to 2010 following a year and a half as an associate director in the industrial team. The National University of Singapore graduate moves into his new role after former China industrial chief Stuart Ross relocated to Singapore last month to become JLL’s head of industrial for Southeast Asia.

In a move which parallel’s Hong Yin’s promotion, Richard Huang has also moved up to become co-head of industrial services for JLL in China, taking responsibility for supply chain and logistics services on the mainland. Huang’s step up comes after he spent one year as head of supply chain and logistics services in China. Huang had served as the property services firm’s national director and head of logistics services in China from May 2015 to March 2019 after three years as director and head of JLL’s West China industrial and business park team. Before joining JLL in 2006, the Wuhan University of Technology graduate had served as a manager in Colliers’ industrial services team.

Bernie Devine has been promoted to regional director for Asia Pacific at property management software provider Yardi after six years as regional director for Asia. In his new role, Devine is responsible for growing Yardi’s business across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Prior to joining Yardi, the University of Technology, Sydney graduate served for twenty months in senior roles at ISS Facility Services A/S after two and half years as regional head of service in asset performance and facilities management with EC Harris’ Middle East team.

Hwang Yu has made the step up to executive director at SC Capital Partners, after over four and a half years as a director for the Singapore-based private equity shop. Prior to joining SC Capital Partners, Yu had served as an associate at Goldman Sachs from 2011 to 2015, following almost four years as an associate at SBS Bank. The UCLA graduate also serves on the board of directors of online travel agency WorldRoamer.

Jun Kang Tan has also been made an executive director at SC Capital Partners following one year and ten months as a director for Suchad Chiaranussati’s Sinagapore-based private equity firm. Prior to joining SC Capital Partners, Tan had served as a vice president (real estate) for mainland fund manager CreditEase and, during a previous stint with SC Capital Partners from 2013 to 2017 had been an Associate. The National University of Singapore graduate had also served as an analyst at LaSalle Investment Management from 2011 to 2013.

Zina Zhang has made the step up to head of marketing and sales enablement in Sydney in JLL’s digital solutions for Asia Pacific team after two years as a director in the services marketing team based in Tokyo. Prior to that, Zhang had served as a director in retail consulting in JLL’s Tokyo team from 2014 to 2018. Before joining JLL as a PR manager in 2012, the Macquarie University graduate had served as a PR manager for Travelport in Sydney.

Mimi Lee has been promoted to business development director at The Executive Centre in Hong Kong after three years as an associate director and six months as a manager. Prior to joining the Hong Kong-based flexible workspace provider, the University of Hong Kong graduate had served as a project marketing officer at Hong Kong-listed Wheelock Properties from 2014 to 2016.
