Lina Wong Out as Colliers Shifts to New Leadership in Shanghai

2018/01/11 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

Lina Wong Colliers Shanghai

Some say that Wong was surprised by her sudden departure

Lina Wong, long-time head of Colliers International’s Shanghai office, left the company this week as the international property consultancy continues to reshape its Asia operations.

In a message to Colliers’ staff in China seen by Mingtiandi, the company’s APAC CEO David Hand said that Wong had resigned from her post as Senior Managing Director for East China, and thanked the Taiwan native for her 17 years with the NASDAQ and Toronto-listed company on the mainland. According to Colliers team members who spoke with Mingtiandi, Wong is no longer working in the company’s offices.

Colliers Positive on Future Under New Leadership

“We are embarking on the next stage for our growth, with significant leadership changes taking place in China,” Hand said in response to an inquiry from Mingtiandi, adding that, “We are very positive on the China markets.”

With Wong gone, Colliers’ Western China Managing Director Tammy Tang is serving as acting head of the company’s East China operation.

Regional Management Model Now in Place

Colliers has been steadily transforming to a regional management model since Hand joined the Toronto-based firm in 2015. The one-time franchise operation has installed regional heads for its business units, replacing the city as personal fiefdom approach that some managers took in the past.

Just one month ago Colliers introduced a new head for its Philippine business, and Wong’ departure may have been foreshadowed in May last year when Tang took over management of the company’s western China offices, which had previously fallen under Wong’s control.
