In this week’s edition of People in the News, WeWork pushes on with its senior leadership re-building by hiring a former oil industry CFO, just over a month after the financially challenged company appointed a new CEO.
In other moves around the region, Fosun International fine-tunes its senior management, while Indonesia-listed Lippo Karawaci beefs up its leadership with a pair of top level appointments. There were also fresh hires at Sun Hung Kai Properties, Dyson and Garage Society.
Kimberly Ross has been hired by WeWork as the co-working giant’s chief financial officer, effective from 16 March, according to an announcement by the company. Ross had previously served as CFO at oil field services firm Baker Hughes from 2014 to 2017, prior to that company’s merger with General Electric’s oil and gas division in 2017. Prior to that, the University of South Florida graduate had served as CFO at Avon Products from 2011 to 2014 after a decade at what is now food retailer Ahold Delhaize, where she worked her way up to the top finance role. WeWork’s new hire follows the company’s appointment last month of Sandeep Mathrani as CEO.
Ping Gong has been appointed as CFO of Fosun International, and has ceased to be CEO of Fosun Hive, according to a stock exchange filing. Linnan Xue, who had served as Fosun International’s CFO prior to Gong’s appointment, has been re-designated as the vice chairman of Fosun Hive. Gong had served as CEO of the company’s real estate division for three years, following two and a half years as president and executive president of Fosun Property Holdings, as the division was previously known. Prior to joining Fosun in 2011, the graduate of Fudan University had served as a global strategist at the headquarters of Samsung Group in Korea.
Surya Tatang has been appointed as chief investment officer at Lippo Karawaci, according to an announcement by the Indonesia-listed developer. In his new role, Tatang is responsible for the company’s real estate fund management business and the company’s investment activities. Prior to joining Lippo Karawaci, the graduate of the Philippines School of Business Administration served as the CFO for internet services company PT Link Net Tbk from 2013 to 2015, following fifteen years in Lippo Group’s corporate finance division between 2001 and 2015, where he served most recently serving as a director.
Tevilyan Yudhistira Rusli has been appointed as chief financial officer at Indonesia-listed developer Lippo Karawaci, effective from 16 April. Rusli will report to CEO John Riady and serve on the company’s board of directors. He will be leaving Unilever where he has worked since 2000, most recently based out of London as group chief auditor. Prior to joining Unilever, the graduate of Chung Yuan Christian University had served as a cost accountant and financial analyst at General Electric from 1997 to 2000.
Joseph Fuqua has joined Sun Hung Kai Properties as the company’s head of investor relations, after parting ways with Clearwater Capital Partners. Fuqua had served as a vice president of business development for the investment management firm from 2018 to 2020, following five years with Hong Kong private equity shop Phoenix Property Investors, where he had served most recently as an assistant vice president of investor relations. Prior to that, the graduate of Brown University had served as managing director of Shanghai-based FarView Academic Consulting from 2009 to 2013.
Matt Shapiro has been hired by bagless vacuum cleaner powerhouse Dyson as a global retail development director in Singapore, after leaving Savills’ Singapore office. Shapiro is leaving after six years with the property consultancy, where he had served most recently as an associate director in the retail tenant representation team. Prior to joining Savills in 2014, the graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa had served AmCham Shanghai in the business group’s SME Centre, where he created some of the most celebrated content their well-intentioned website.
Surabhi Verma has been appointed as Garage Society’s director of commerce in India, after defecting from co-working rival WeWork. Verma joins the Hong Kong-based firm after serving as a senior manager for the US co-working giant for two years, which followed four and a half years as a partner account manager with software-as-a-service company NowFloats. Prior to that, the graduate of Delhi’s St Stephen’s College had held managerial and executive positions with Zomato, Earth Axis and KPMG.
Nishant Goyal has been hired by Garage Society as the company’s director of operations, as the Hong Kong-based co-working operator expands in India. Goyal joins Garage Society from Electrotherm (India), a Gujarat-based manufacturer of furnaces for the steel industry, where he had served as a regional business manager for 11 years.
