Asia Real Estate People in the News 2019-01-21

This week in Mingtiandi’s overview of personnel moves in Asia’s real estate sector we have tracked down recent changes across the fund management, listed trust and advisory worlds to bring you the latest updates on your former team mates, potential partners or new co-workers. Among the highlights, a long-time CLSA executive has landed a new gig in Sydney, and an S-REIT has brought on board a new CFO, and there are more details on these changes and more awaiting you below.

Paul Gately BaringPaul Gately has joined Baring Private Equity Asia in Sydney as Managing Director and Head of Asset Management for the company’s real estate division. Gately joins Baring after eight years with CLSA Capital Partners in Singapore and more recently Sydney, where he had been Head of the private equity firm’s Australia Real Estate Fund until late last year. In his new role, Gately is charged with seeking Australian opportunities for Baring Private Equity’s real estate fund, while also looking after asset management for the company’s broader Asian portfolio.

benjamin kuahThe manager of Singapore’s SPH REIT has named Benjamin Kuah Hsien Yiao as its new Chief Financial Officer, and head of investors relations, according to an announcement to the Singapore stock exchange. The property affiliate of Singapore Press Holdings chose the former group financial controller from Nanshan Group Singapore after the 38-year-old had been with the real estate developer for two years.

stella huangStella Huang has joined JLL as a Director with the Capital Markets team in Shanghai, according to an update on her LinkedIn profile. Huang came over to JLL from Cushman & Wakefield shortly after her former C&W colleague, Jim Yip. took over as head of Capital Markets in China for JLL. Prior to this latest switch, Huang had been with Cushman for just less than one year after joining from Malaysian hospitality and real estate investment firm Mulpha International.

wendy huangWendy Huang has joined Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions (BGIS) in Singapore as a Business Development Manager with the real estate management division of the Canadian investment giant. Huang began her new role this month after more than four years with the Executive Centre, and after moving to Singapore in March of 2018. The graduate of Shanghai Fisheries University and Hong Kong Polytechnic also has previous experience with Regus and ABN-AMRO.

larry liLarry Li has joined the Private Real Estate Debt team at the Canadian Public Pension Investment Board in Hong Kong as an Analyst with the pension fund manager. Li joins CPPIB after just over two years with Anbang Asset Management in the city, an affiliate of controversial mainland finance firm Anbang Insurance. The graduate of Tsinghua University and Hong Kong Polytechnic also has previous experience with RBS and Credit Agricole CIB.

royce zhanRoyce Zhan has been promoted to Research Manager with Real Capital Analytics in Singapore – his latest step up at the real estate data provider. Zhan joined the provider of property transaction information in the Southeast Asian financial hub as a Research Analyst after finishing his Bachelor’s Degree at National University of Singapore in 2016, and had been promoted to Senior Research Analyst in January 2018.
