JLL announced today that Christian Ulbrich, who has been the property consultancy’s president since June, will also assume the position of Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, 2016. Ulbrich succeeds Colin Dyer, who will retire from JLL at the end of 2016 and step down from the CEO role on September 30th this year.
“Working closely with Christian since he joined JLL, I know firsthand his deep understanding of global real estate dynamics and ability to lead across wide and diverse geographies,” said Dyer. “With his guidance and our strong management team, JLL will continue to grow and prosper.”
Dyer will remain on JLL’s board of directors through the through the company’s annual shareholders meeting next spring, and is set to serve as an adviser through 2017.
In his new role, Ulbrich will have overall leadership responsibility for JLL’s strategic direction and growth, after serving as JLL’s CEO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa since 2009, before taking on the president role this year. During his time at the helm of JLL’s EMEA business, Ulbrich’s portion of JLL’s global operation nearly tripled its revenues and significantly expanded the scope of its service offerings.
As CEO, Ulbrich will report to JLL’s board of directors, while also serving as an executive member of the decision-making body and chairing the company’s top internal management committee, the Global Executive Board. Ulbrich joined JLL in 2005 as Managing Director of JLL Germany after serving as CEO of the HIH group of companies headquartered in Hamburg, Germany.
JLL’s announcement of its global leadership change comes less than three months after its former east China head Anthony Couse was promoted to the role of Asia Pacific CEO, based in Singapore.
Since Dyer took charge of JLL in 2004, the company’s revenues grew more than five times – to $6 billion in the most recent financial year. Through organic growth and over 80 strategic acquisitions globally, the real estate services firm added more than 100 offices and 30 new countries to its geographic footprint.
