The Ongoing Social Value of Yesterday’s Online Technology

2012/03/21 by Michael Cole 1 Comment

While the headlines have moved on to Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook, there is still money to be made from the less sexy, but still effective technology of way back in 2009.rss for online marketing

RSS Feeds

  • Easy way to syndicate content from your blog
  • Content can be republished in many places
  • Audience tends to be a bit geeky
  • Not as accessible to the end user as social networks

Email Newsletters

  • Can send free email newsletters on platforms such as Mailchimpuse mailchimp to manage email newsletters
  • These newsletters can also be shared on any social network you like
  • Not limited by the GFW
  • Average age for email users is 15-65

While social can give you access to early adopters and some of the most online savvy users, established technologies such as RSS and email marketing can greatly improve the reach of your content, and can get you access to users who don’t participate in social networks.

The key to using any of these technologies, is measuring the results and finding out which approach creates ROI for you.
