Asia Real Estate People in the News 2020-08-03

Once the preserve of those not stylish enough for retail or slick enough for office, industrial real estate specialists lead Mingtiandi’s round-up of people moves this week as a GLP veteran teams up with a Li & Fung director to help the warehouse giant set up shop in Vietnam.

There’s also a new chairman at the parent company of developer China Resources Land and Hongkong Land appoints a new non-executive director from an Indonesian affiliate.

kent yang SLPKent Yang is now a Founding Partner at SEA Logistic Partners (SLP), an industrial property development and operation platform backed by GLP. Yang, who formerly served as President for China at GLP, set up the Ho Chi Minh City-based venture earlier this year, at around the same time that the company formerly known as Global Logistic Properties was backing the HK$7.2 billion privatisation of Hong Kong sourcing and distribution giant Li & Fung.

chih cheungJoining Yang to establish SLP is Chih Cheung, who also serves as a Founding Partner in the warehouse developer. Cheung, who is a Li & Fung board member, takes on his responsibilities with the logistics real estate start-up while continuing to fulfill his role as Managing Partner at Taipei-based family office C2 Capital. Cheung, who holds JD and MBA degrees from Harvard University, is also co-founder and co-chairman of sportswear-maker JAMM Active and an Independent Non-Executive Director at New Focus Auto Tech Holdings, as well as serving on the boards of New Focus Auto Tech Holdings and Yucheng Technologies.

Prijono SugiartoHongkong Land has named Prijono Sugiarto as non-executive Director on the board of the London-listed developer, according to an announcement on 29 July. Sugiarto was appointed to the board of the company known for Jardine House and the Exchange Square complex in Hong Kong just over one month after being named President Commissioner of Astra International, Jardine Matheson Group’s automotive joint venture in Indonesia.

On 28 July, the comrades in charge of China Resources Group announced that Wang Xiangming has been appointed as the new chairman of the state-owned mainland conglomerate, replacing Fu Yuning, who is retiring. Born in 1963, Wang has served since 2019 as a director and general manager of China Resources Group, after previously being employed as President of China State Construction and Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

calvin see Swire PropertiesCalvin See has taken on the role of General Manager of Portfolio Management at HKRI Taikoo Hui, the commercial property complex on Shanghai’s Nanjing Road co-owned by Swire Properties and HKRI. See steps into the role after 20 years at Swire Properties, where he had served most recently as Head of Business Development in Beijing. The University of Hong Kong graduate joined Swire directly after graduating and also has served as Assistant Director of Portfolio Management for the company in Chengdu and Beijing.

jason liu CBREJason Liu has joined CBRE in Beijing as a Director with the property agency’s Advisory & Transaction Services division. Part of the tenant representation side of the office leasing operation, Liu takes on his new role after just less than one year as a Director with JLL in China’s capital. The China University of Mining and Technology graduate also spent nearly eight years with Colliers International in Beijing.

ying spencer wangYing (Spencer) Wang has been promoted to Deputy Manager on the Investment and Development team at Chongbang Group in Shanghai, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Wang takes his step up at the commercial property developer behind the Lifehub series of retail anchored projects after first joining Chongbang in January 2018. The Ohio State University graduate also has previous experience at Chiway Holding Group in Shanghai.
