Matt is the Co-CEO of Local: Residential, an Australian build-to-rent platform that seeks to empower Australians to live a sustainable and socially conscious lifestyle. Local provides quality, sustainable rental communities incorporating at least 10% social, affordable, specialist disability accommodation in every project alongside mainstream market rental product.
With almost 20 years of experience in the Australian real estate industry, Matt has an exceptional track record in acquisition & transaction management, valuation, capital raising, planning and development management. Matt has structured and funded over AUD$4bn developments, including Queen Victoria Market BTR and the former CUB site in Melbourne, and the 2018 Commonwealth Games Village, Smith Collective on the Gold Coast.
Local: Residential is a Melbourne-born Build to Rent platform, established in 2021 by Matt Berg and Dan McLennan in conjunction with Macquarie Asset Management Real Estate. Local has a project pipeline of over 1,600 apartments currently under management across four sites in Melbourne.
Local is opening the door to a sustainable and more secure way of renting.
