Just over two months after seeing its top executive in the region head off to lead a global rival, digital infrastructure giant Equinix has named a new president for Asia Pacific.

Four-year company veteran Cyrus Adaggra has been appointed to the top executive role for Equinix in the region, the US data centre developer and operator said in an announcement on Thursday, stepping up from his current role as vice president for corporate development and strategy for Asia Pacific.

In his new role, Adaggra will be responsible for management, strategy and growth for Equinix in the APAC region as the company strives to meet the demands of its customers and partners, according to the statement.

“Cyrus’ contributions in Asia-Pacific have been pivotal to our ability to grow and expand into new markets across Asia,” said Equinix chief business officer Jon Lin. “He is an exceptional leader in advancing regional growth, forging strong government partnerships, and strengthening our presence in the region.”

Market Builder

Adaggra take the helm at Equinix as the company has been ramping up its presence in Southeast Asia and other parts of the region, including announcing less than one month ago that it is developing its sixth data centre in Singapore.

fContinuing to be based in Sydney, Australia, Adaggra is reporting directly to Lin in his new role with the NASDAQ-listed company, with the newly appointed leader pointing to the need to keep pace with a quickly expanding Asian market.

Jeremy Deutsch Vantage

Jeremy Deutsch left Equinix for Vantage in October

“Equinix has expanded into new markets across this fast-growing and dynamic region over the past four years, and Asia continues to be a large growth opportunity for our company,” Adaggra said. “The digital landscape across Asia is experiencing rapid growth and transformation, fuelled by the increasing adoption of digital technologies and the rise of digital economies,” he added.

The leadership transition at Equinix comes after hyperscale operator Vantage Data Centers, announced in early October that it had hired then-Equinix APAC president Jeremy Deutsch for a parallel role at the unit of US private equity firm DigitalBridge. Prior to that shift, Deutsch had spent 23 years at Equinix.

Adaggra is credited with leading Equinix’ expansion in new and existing APAC markets during his time as vice president. That track record includes spearheading the co-location specialist’s entry into Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as organic expansion in existing APAC markets.

Before joining Equinix in 2021, Adaggra served as an executive with the mergers and acquisitions team at Australian telecom operator Telstra, where he spent nearly a decade, and has over 20 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), financial strategy and corporate development.

Asia Expansion

Equinix named its new leadership less than one month after announcing that it had broken ground on a $260 million data centre as its sixth in Singapore, with the facility expected to open in the first quarter of 2027

In late October the company had unveiled its entry into Thailand, as its fifth Southeast Asian market, with plans to invest $500 million in the country’s digital infrastructure over the next decade.

That fourth quarter announcement came after Equinix declared in July that it was acquiring three facilities in the Philippines from Manila-based tech firm Total Information Management as its first assets in that market.
