CBRE Names Greg Hyland as Head of APAC Capital Markets

2019/10/15 by James Hatton Leave a Comment

CBRE has appointed Greg Hyland as managing director of capital markets for Asia Pacific, according to an announcement by the company.

Greg Hyland has made the move to CBRE

The former JLL head of capital markets for Singapore takes charge of the consulting firm’s capital markets teams across Asia Pacific, reporting to London-based group president and CEO of advisory services for APAC and EMEA, Martin Samworth.

A CBRE spokesperson told Mingtiandi that Hyland will also drive closer integration between the APAC, EMEA and global capital markets teams.

Hyland’s appointment comes just over three months after JLL promoted Ting Lim to head of capital markets for Singapore to replace Hyland.

“CBRE is recognised as the global leader in real estate capital markets services and I’m delighted to be joining,” Hyland said. “Investors increasingly demand seamless and innovative services, and CBRE’s commitment to investing in the platform will ensure we will continue to deliver outstanding results for our clients.”

Hyland parted ways with JLL after over 13 years with the firm, working with the company initially in Shanghai from 2006 to 2010.

The Queensland University of Technology graduate stepped up to head of capital markets in Singapore in 2014, following four years as a regional director of Asia capital markets based in the city state.

“Greg’s broad understanding of global capital markets and ability to advise, execute and deliver for clients will enhance our global capital markets offering, while driving our growth strategy across the APAC region,” Samworth said in a joint statement with global president of capital markets, Chris Ludeman.

CBRE Senior-level Reshuffling in Singapore

CBRE’s hire of the former JLL head coincides with several departures from the firm’s capital markets team in Singapore office.

The firm confirmed to Mingtiandi that Jeremy Lake, a managing director and formerly CBRE’s head of capital markets for Singapore, left the company within recent weeks, along with former executive director of APAC capital markets and residential services, Galven Tan.

The departing duo, along with CBRE’s former executive director and head of industrial & logistics services for Singapore Brenda Ong, and her former colleague Maverick Li, are joining Savills in Singapore, according to a report in The Business Times.

In response to an enquiry from Mingtiandi, Tan said that he was not able to comment at this time with regard to where the former CBRE staffers are headed.

“Capital Markets is a core line of business for CBRE Singapore and we have been investing in resources to facilitate its next growth phase,” a CBRE spokesperson told Mingtiandi.

The firm’s co-head of advisory & transactions in office services, Michael Tay, has assumed the role of head of capital markets for Singapore that fell vacant when Lake departed.

To help strengthen the Singapore team further, Hugh Menck, who had worked with Colliers International’s investment team in the city before heading to Shanghai with CBRE in 2014, returned to Singapore to help lead CBRE’s cross-border investment deals from August of this year.

“The Singapore capital markets team, as well as all in-country capital markets teams across Asia Pacific, will work closely with Greg to drive deeper relationships with our clients, delivering competitive advantage and superior returns on clients’ real estate investments,” the CBRE spokesperson told Mingtiandi.

Hyland’s new position in APAC was announced on the same day that CBRE revealed that it had promoted Chris Brett to lead its EMEA Capital Markets team as Managing Director. Brett succeeds Adolfo Ramirez-Escudero who will now focus full time on leading CBRE’s Spanish business, according to the company.
