In this week’s edition of Mingtiandi’s People in the News, Colliers’ head of international properties in Asia has stepped down to join CBRE’s residential agency team in Sydney, while a Singapore-based property-listings portal has made a pair of key hires to help grow its Indonesia business.

In other fresh moves around the region, Morgan Stanley has made an addition to its portfolio and transaction management team in Hong Kong, while Kerry Properties has hired an engagement manager in Shanghai.

And in Vietnam, CBRE is showing signs of putting more resources into the southeast Asian nation as it names two new division heads.

James Hall has been appointed as a director at CBRE in Sydney, after parting ways with Colliers where he had been managing director and head of its international properties team in Asia since 2017, working out of both Singapore and Hong Kong. Hall will be joining CBRE’s residential agency team, which focuses on the luxury market. Prior to joining Colliers, Hall had served as CBRE’s regional director for international properties in Hong Kong for five years, after a year and a half at Colliers as regional director for international properties in Asia.

Rajesh Grover has been hired by Singapore-based propetrty listings site, 99.co as its managing director for Indonesia. Grover, who was the co-founder of Rocket Internet-backed real estate portal Lamudi, will be responsible for 99.co’s business profitability and growth in the country, according to a company statement cited by Tech in Asia. Prior to this, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology graduate had served as a brand manager in India for Remy Cointreau, Bacardi and Diageo.

In 99.co’s second senior appointment of the week, Vivek Kumar has been hired as head of products for the Singapore-based property portal, after parting ways with Amazon where he had led the product management team in India, according to Tech in Asia. In his new Singapore-based role, Kumar will be responsible for delivering and scaling products for the property-listings company. Prior to his five-month stint at Amazon, Kumar had led product teams at MagicBricks and Snapdeal.

Alan Chan has joined Morgan Stanley’s portfolio and transaction management team in Hong Kong, after leaving JLL where he had been a senior manager in Transaction Management for ten months. Prior to this, Chan had served as a senior account manager and account manager in Knight Frank’s global corporate services team for three years, and as a senior associate in client services at S&P between 2015 and 2016. The Fudan University graduate had also served as an analyst and assistant manager in corporate solutions at Colliers from 2012 to 2015.

Carmen Tong has been appointed by Kerry Properties as an engagement manager in Shanghai, after parting ways with The Executive Centre where she had served as a regional marketing manager for six months. Prior to this, Tong had served as a marketing and branding manager for Shanghai-based VOL Group between 2018 and 2019, and had been an assistant marketing manager for East China at The Ascott Limited from 2014 until 2018. The University of Toronto graduate had also worked for Onyx Hospitality Group as a marketing executive between 2011 and 2014.

CBRE has appointed Mai Vo as head of retail services for Vietnam based in Ho Chi Minh City. Vo joins the US-based firm after spending nine years with rival agency Cushman & Wakefield. In her new role, Vo will lead CBRE’s retail leasing team, working out of CBRE’s Ho Chi Minh City office. The National University of Vietnam graduate had served as Cushman & Wakefield’s national head of retail services in Vietnam for almost five years and had been in charge of business development since 2011.

Former CapitaLand executive Ngoc Chu has joined CBRE in Ho Chi Minh City as the agency’s head of property management in Vietnam. Chu, who had served for two years as director of sales and marketing for Ascendas-Singbridge in HCMC joins CBRE shortly after CapitaLand finished acquiring her former employer.  Prior to working with the Singapore-based developer, Chu had served as a sales and marketing director for serviced office operator Regus in the southern Vietnamese commercial hub from 2015 until 2017, and had served as a senior associate and senior property manager for Mapletree between 2011 and 2015.
