Asia Real Estate People in the News 2024-10-07

A new boss at one of the region’s largest investors heads up this week’s review of personnel moves from around Asia’s real estate industry as Korea’s KIC updates its org chart. Also making the list is a new chairman at China Life and the retirement of a REIT chairman in Singapore.

Park Il Young KICKorea Investment Corporation announced on Thursday that it has appointed Park Il Young as its new president. Park joins the South Korean sovereign wealth fund after previously serving as an executive director with the World Bank Group. The financial policy veteran also spent from 2017 through 2022 with South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, and formerly served as a senior advisor to the executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Li Mingguang China LifeChina Life Insurance Company Ltd announced on 30 September that Li Mingguang has been appointed chairman of the mainland insurer with effect from that same day. Already an executive director and president of the company, Li is replacing Bai Tao in the chairman role, while China Life, in the same announcement, said that its Party Secretary, Cai Xiliang, has also been named to an executive director position on the board.

Henry Ho Hon CheongThe manager of Frasers Logistics and Commercial Trust said on 27 September that Henry Ho Hon Cheong is stepping down from his role as a non-executive and independent director on the board of the Singapore-listed REIT. The departure also sees Ho, now 70, retiring from his role as chairman of the board, as he approaches the nine-year term limit on membership in the leadership body.

Alan Tan CapitaLandAlan Tan has been named managing director and head of capital raising, as well as managing director for special projects, at CapitaLand Investment in Singapore, according to a LinkedIn update. Tan’s new role comes after the graduate of INSEAD and Nanyang Technological University spent over a year as head of strategic partnerships with CapitaLand Development. Tan also has previous experience with Morgan Stanley in Singapore.

Max Yiu Chi ManWang On Properties announced to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 30 September that Max Yiu Chi Man has been appointed to an executive director role on the developer’s board with effect from 1 October. Now 54, Yiu joined Wang On in January of this year as chief financial officer after earlier holding a parallel role with mainland China developer Golden Wheel Tiandi Holdings.

Eric Liang Link REITEric Liang this month joined Link REIT in Hong Kong as a director, according to a LinkedIn update. Signing up with Asia’s largest real estate investment trust following less than two years with Empire State Realty Trust in the US, Liang reports to group chief investment officer John Saunders and will be responsible for investment and portfolio strategy as the organisation builds out its fund management business.

Ashish Singh ActisAshish Singh will be leaving his role as head of India and Southeast Asia real estate at fund manager Actis, according to Indian media reports. Singh, who is also a partner with the UK private equity firm, is said to be staying with Actis through the end of 2025 after first joining in 2018. Prior to joining Actis, Singh spent nearly a decade with Standard Chartered in Mumbai and also has previous experience with Tishman Speyer.

Nicolas Menville SGColliers announced on 1 October that it has appointed Nicolas Menville as executive director and head of Singapore-based industrial clients. Reporting to Singapore managing director Bastiaan van Beijsterveldt, Menville takes on his new role this month after nearly four years as a managing director property agency Omega RE in the Lion City and also has previous experience with Bouygues Immobilier in France.
