Australia’s Arrow Capital Expands APAC Team with Hire of Former Durst Exec

Jason Risorto Arrow Capital Partners

Australian property developer, manager, and investor Arrow Capital Partners is bolstering its capabilities in the region with the appointment of Jason Risorto as an executive with its Asia Pacific investment management team.

The new role will see Risorto managing and expanding Arrow Capital’s existing joint ventures across Asia Pacific, as well as driving new strategies across the region.

“We are delighted to welcome Jason to the Arrow team,” Arrow Capital partner Kurt Wilkinson said in a release on Wednesday. “He brings a wealth of experience with him across a broad range of asset classes, having worked on real estate investment, development, financing and asset management throughout his career. We look forward to having him onboard as we continue to evolve the business.”

Risorto will be based out of Arrow Capital’s Sydney headquarters and will report to Wilkinson.

A$5 Billion AUM

Risorto joins Arrow Capital from New York-based developer and investment firm The Durst Organization, where he led and managed a portfolio of venture capital, public equity and fund investments as director of Durst Ventures, the company’s investment arm.

In addition to that role, Risorto also led property acquisitions, dispositions and strategic initiatives as director of real estate transactions at The Durst Organization.

Prior to The Durst Organization, the Bentley University graduate held various roles at New York-based property firm AmTrust Realty, UBS and JP Morgan.

Arrow Capital manages over A$5 billion of global assets across the office and logistics sectors, including developments, and invests in both equity and debt assets, with a focus on value add and repositioning opportunities.

The fund manager has a team of 60 people based in 12 countries, with Asia Pacific offices located in Australia, New Zealand and Shanghai.

Aussie Trades

Arrow Capital specialises in cross-border transactions involving US and Asia Pacific-based investors deploying capital into Europe, as well as European and US investors investing into the Asia Pacific region, with the fund manager investing alongside its investors.

Earlier this month, Arrow Capital bought the Gateway Industrial Estate in northern Sydney from HKEX-listed industrial giant ESR for A$101.8 million ($68 million) in Australia’s largest single-asset industrial transaction so far this year.

The fund manager acquired the logistics property through its Australian Strategic Industrial Real Estate (SIRE) fund, which was launched in 2020 after having raised A$1 billion in commitments, with US private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management reportedly among the vehicle’s backers.

The acquisition came a month after a joint venture between Arrow Capital and an affiliate of Miami-based Starwood Capital sold a portfolio of seven logistics properties near Sydney and Melbourne for A$166.8 million ($110 million). That disposal took place in a series of transactions with buyers including ASX-listed Lendlease and a joint venture between local property firms MaxCap Group and Troon Group.
