Asia Real Estate People in the News 2018-09-03

2018/09/04 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

As we move into September there are more new jobs for Asia’s real estate professionals than we had prize pumpkins at last week’s Minnesota State Fair. At the top of the list, Wang Jianlin loses the boss of his Bond boat maker, Sunseeker, and a seven year agency veteran joins a mainland developer in Shanghai during the same week that a Shandong steel magnate pulls talent from a competing agency in Singapore. Read on for all the details on these moves and more.

philip pophamPhilip Popham, chief executive of Dalian Wanda Group’s Sunseeker International subsidiary resigned from the UK superyacht maker last month saying that he was ready to “embark on a fresh challenge”. Popham leaves the maker of the yachts most likely to be seen in a James Bond movie some five years after the property developer helmed by billionaire Wang Jianlin paid a reported £320 million to buy a 91.8 percent stake in the maker of big nautical toys in 2013.

tony caoTony Cao has been promoted to Senior Director of Development with Intercontinental Hotels Group in Beijing, after more than nine years with the US hotel operator. Cao took his latest step up with the owner of the Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza and Intercontinental brands after more than two years as Director of Development, where the graduate of Beijing’s Tsinghua University and Australian National University has overseen research into optimal placement of the group’s venues in the region.

lily linLily (Li) Lin has climbed aboard at Shanghai Land as Senior Vice President of Investment based int the developer’s home city of Shanghai, according to an update on her LinkedIn account. Lin takes on her new responsibilities with Shanghai Land after more than seven years with the strategic consulting team at JLL in Shanghai, where she served most recently as an Associate Director. The graduate of the MBA program at the University of Hong Kong also has experience with KPMG.

harrison chapmanHarrison Chapman has signed up with WeWork in Hong Kong as an Enterprise Account Executive with $20 billion shared office unicorn. Chapman caught the WeWork fever after one year as Senior Operations Manager with the International Properties team for Asia at Colliers International in Hong Kong. The University of Sydney graduate also has experience with Aussie developer Mirvac in Sydney.

joey huJoey (Chaoyi) Hu has landed at CITIC Trust in New York as a Trust Manager with the mainland investment giant. Hu started his new duties with the Chinese financial pioneer after completing his Master’s degree in real estate finance and investment earlier this year at Columbia University in the city of New York. Prior to taking on this role Hu has served a series of internships, including stints with Vanke, JLL and Savills.
