Asia Real Estate People in the News 2023-05-22

A promotion at a leading Hong Kong real estate fund manager leads this week’s roundup of people moves from around Asia, with Singapore’s Daiwa House REIT also making the list alongside new appointments at China Jinmao Holdings and Malaysia’s Tower REIT.

Terence Li ArchTerence Lo has been promoted to managing director with the investment and asset management team at Arch Capital Management in Hong Kong, according to a LinkedIn update. Lo took his step up at the regional real estate fund manager after more than 15 years at the company. A graduate of the Sauder School of Business at Canada’s University of British Columbia, Lo had served most recently as a director at Arch.

img-bod-jun-yamamuraDaiwa House Asset Management Asia announced on 19 May that it has appointed Jun Yamamura as the next chief executive officer of the Singapore-listed warehouse REIT as founding CEO Takeshi Fujita prepares to step down on 31 May. Yamamura, currently head of planning for the manager of Daiwa House REIT has been with the trust’s sponsor since April 2021, when he was part of the project team organising the Singapore IPO.

Li Congrui (Getty Images)Shanghai-based developer China Jinmao Holdings recently overhauled its top management, with Li Congrui (pictured) being promoted to chairman from chief executive. Li takes over the top spot at the Hong Kong-listed unit of China’s Sinochem Corporation from Li Fanrong (no relation) who has left the company’s board to focus on other duties with the group, according to an announcement to the Hong Kong exchange. Also joining China Jinmao’s board as executive directors are Tao Tianhai and Qiao Xiaojie.

Noorbaizura HermeyneyMalaysia’s Tower REIT announced to the Kuala Lumpur exchange that Noorbaizura Hermeyney has resigned as chief executive of the trust’s manager with effect from 18 May. Now 40, Noorbaizura is resigning from her leadership of the GuocoLand-sponsored REIT to become managing director of GuocoLand Malaysia. She takes over the GuocoLand role  from Tan Wee Bee, who is leaving the company. Noorbaizura had since December 2020 served with the asset management division of Savills in Kuala Lumpur, and also has previous experience with Naza Corporation Holdings. Also joining Tower REIT’s board last week was Yeap Yen Yen, who was promoted from financial controller to chief financial officer.

William Heng EmpyrionSeraya Partners-backed data centre platform Empryion DC said earlier this month that it has added a trio of senior executives to its Singapore team, as it continues to expand in Asia Pacific. William Heng (pictured) joins as senior vice president of engineering solutions, while Loo Hui Hua comes aboard as vice president of legal and former Keppel and Essensys executive Genevieve Wong has taken on the role of director of marketing and communications. Heng had served with Digital Realty and Equinix before joining Empyrion.

Bob van den Oord, Chief Executive Officer, Langham Hospitality GroupBob van den Oord has been named chief executive officer for Langham Hospitality Group, with the 20-year company veteran taking a step up from his current role as regional vice president for Europe, Middle East and North America from 1 September, according to a company announcement. Van den Oord is taking over the top spot with the hotel division of Hong Kong’s Great Eagle Group from Brett Butcher, who will retain responsibilities within Great Eagle while continuing to serve chief executive of Langham Hospitality Investment, a REIT which manages a set of Hong Kong hotels.

Wayne Mo PerennialWayne Mo has joined Perennial Holdings in Guangzhou as investment and asset management director, according to a LinkedIn update. Mo signed up with the Singapore-based group after nearly six years with Guangzhou-based Agile Group, where he had served most recently as investment and financing director for the company’s industrial development centre. Mo also has experience with Mapletree and Colliers International.

Ivy Cheng CapitaLandIvy Cheng has reported for a new role with CapitaLand in Sydney, Australia where she serves as director of investment and business development, according to a LinkedIn announcement. A graduate of Shanghai’s Fudan University as well as of Sydney’s University of New South Wales, Cheng had spent the past two years as a property investment manager with Australia’s NRMA (National Roads and Motorists Association) and also has previous experience with Elanor Investments Group and JLL.
