Singapore-based SC Capital Partners has bolstered its team with four senior hires, led by the addition of Man Yik Chiu to take charge of asset management for the private equity firm’s opportunistic fund series.

After most recently overseeing assets for CapitaLand Investment’s value-add strategy, MY Chiu will serve as managing director and head of asset management for SC Capital’s Real Estate Capital Asia Partners, which recently launched the sixth fund in the RECAP series with a goal of raising $1 billion.

SC Capital has also brought aboard June Kim, previously of EGW Asset Management, to assume the role of executive director for the firm’s Japan Hospitality Fund, as well as Keppel Capital alum Justin Cham and Lendlease analyst Jester Perez to serve as investment director and research director.

“We are delighted to expand our team as our business continues to grow from strength to strength,” SC Capital chairman Suchad Chiaranussati said Wednesday in a release. “We are confident that with their experience and deep knowledge of real estate in this region, MY, June, Justin and Jester will each contribute immensely to the SCCP team in their respective roles.”

LaSalle Veteran

Based in Hong Kong, Chiu has more than 33 years of experience in the acquisition and asset management of real estate portfolios comprising stabilised assets, value-add projects and greenfield developments, according to SC Capital.

Before joining CapitaLand, Chiu spent 13 years with LaSalle Investment Management, where he was head of asset management for Greater China. His previous experience also includes working as a fund manager for a joint venture between Hongkong Land and Grosvenor, in addition to earlier stints at Citibank and Jones Lang Wootton.

Chiu holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Diploma in Surveying from the College of Estate Management in the UK.

Kim will focus on acquisition, value enhancement and realisation activities for the Japan Hospitality Fund from her post in Tokyo. At EGW she served as director of asset management of hotels for five years, working on the hospitality portfolio across Japan and developing relationships with Korean institutional investors.

Before joining EGW, Kim worked at Fortress Investment Group Japan as a vice president for hotel acquisitions and asset management. Fluent in English, Korean and Japanese, she holds a Bachelor of Science from Hanyang University and a master’s in real estate finance and hotel business strategy development from Cornell University.

Rounding Out the Team

Singapore-based Cham spent more than six years with Keppel Capital and Keppel DC REIT, where he was head of global investments. The graduate of Nanyang Technological University was previously involved in the portfolio and fund management of an Asia Pacific real estate strategy at PGIM Real Estate and handled real estate acquisitions at MEAG Pacific Star Asia.

Perez oversees internal research across SC Capital’s strategies from the Singapore office. He worked at Lendlease for 10 years, providing research house views and strategic insights, and earlier spent five years as a research manager at JLL in Australia, where he had obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Sydney.

Founded in 2004 by Thai financier Suchad, SC Capital Partners has more than $6.3 billion in assets under management.
