Asia Real Estate People in the News 2022-06-13

Top level moves in Hong Kong lead this week’s roundup of personnel moves from around Asia with the SAR appointing a new member to the leadership of the Urban Renewal Authority, and top developer New World Development naming a new director to its board. There are also senior appointments at Fidelity International, M&G, JLL, Colliers and Knight Frank.

Carolin Fong Suet-yuenThe Hong Kong government announced on 10 June that chief executive Carrie Lam has appointed Carolin Fong Suet-yuen as an executive director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) for a three year term starting from 3 October. Trained as an architect, Fong has been director of estates for Hong Kong Baptist University since 2019 and previously served as director and head of sustainable development at DLN Architects in the city. In the same announcement, the government said that URA managing director Wai Chi-sing has been reappointed to a fresh three-year term at the helm of the planning organisation.

Eric ma_shiu_cheungNew World Development has appointed Eric Ma Siu-Cheung as an executive director on its board, according to an announcement to the Hong Kong stock exchange on 8 June. The appointment comes after Ma took over the chief executive role at New World’s NWS Holdings infrastructure division in 2019, with the board appointment set to take effect from 1 July. Now 58, Ma has been with New World Group since 2018, when he joined NWS as chief operating officer.

Barry ChungBarry Chung has joined Fidelity International in Hong Kong as a director responsible for capital raising for the asset manager’s alternatives division in Asia Pacific, exclusive of Japan, according to a LinkedIn update. Chung joins Fidelity after more than four years with the private and real assets division of DWS Group in Hong Kong and also has previous experience with Logos Property in Shanghai.

mark gladuWith Shanghai now freed from its two month lockdown, Mark Gladu has made his escape from China’s commercial capital to take on a senior director role with JLL’s industrial real estate team in Singapore. The shift to Southeast Asia comes after Gladu had spent nearly eight years with JLL’s industrial team in Shanghai, including having been promoted to senior director just one year ago. The graduate of Canada’s Thompson Rivers University also has previous experience with CBRE in Vancouver.

Liam McCartan Knight FrankLiam McCartan has jumped to Knight Frank in Hong Kong where he now serves as a senior director with the office strategy and solutions team at the property consultancy, according to a statement by the company this past week. McCartan joins Knight Frank from Cushman & Wakefield in the city, where he had been a senior director with the tenant representation of the firm’s office services division for nearly five years. He also has previous experience with Colliers and JLL.

Dinah Seah MGDinah Seah has joined M&G in Singapore as head of communications for Asia, according to a LinkedIn update this past week. Seah started her new role with the UK investment management giant this month after more than two years with Colliers in the city, where she had served as head of communications for the property consultancy’s capital markets and investment services division.

Sharon Hung ColliersSharon Hung has signed up with Colliers in Hong Kong as a director with the property services firm’s capital markets and investment services division starting this month, according to a statement by the company. Hung, who joins from Knight Frank, is part of a luxury residential team formed this year at Colliers, where she is reunited with her former co-workers Steve Lam and Iris Lee. Hung had spent more than six years at Knight Frank including working as a director since August 2020.
