With multi-family residential having become one of the most sought after investment opportunities in Asia Pacific in recent years, the lead interview session this week will be followed by interviews and panel sessions featuring guests from Allianz Real Estate, Warburg Pincus, SC Capital and more in a series of events happening each week until 25 May.

Partners on Stage

The interview with APG and Greystar this week, which is sponsored by Yardi, gives viewers the opportunity to learn more about opportunities in multi-family from a pair of top executives who have been leading rental residential investments in the region since 2019.

Greystar, which is the largest multi-family operator in the US with nearly $40 billion in assets under management, formally entered Asia Pacific in 2018, and APG was one of the primary backers of its first Asia rental housing fund when it reached a $450 million first close in February of 2019.

After establishing multi-family projects in Shanghai, Greystar and APG expanded into Japan in December of 2019 with a reported $200 million acquisition.

APG then followed up in early 2020 with a reported A$350 million ($270 million) investment in Greystar’s Australian multi-family venture, which reached a $1.1 billion final close in February of this year with the objective of developing rental residential projects in Sydney, Melbourne and other prime markets.

Warburg Pincus, JLL, Weave on the Way

Directly following the May holiday, MTD TV will be back with another exclusive spotlight interview session on 6 May, featuring Warburg Pincus managing director Qiqi Zhang, who has led some of the most innovative investments in Greater China’s rental residential sector, together with Jessica Yu Minjun, chair of listed mainland developer Shanghai Golden Union Investment.

The Asia Multi-Family Forum will focus on Greater China for a panel on Wednesday, 12 May, which will feature Greystar managing director for China investment, Charles Ma, Weave Living founder and CEO Sachin Doshi and a senior director from JLL.

Japan, will be the focus of a panel discussion on Tuesday, 18 May, with that session to feature Greystar managing director for Asia Pacific Akira Kosugi, JLL’s CEO of Asia Pacific capital markets Stuart Crow, and Rushabh Desai, CEO for Asia Pacific at Allianz Real Estate.

On Tuesday 25 May, the Multi-Family Forum will conclude with a panel on emerging rental residential classes in Asia Pacific. In that session, Jyoti Ramchandani, a managing director at SC Capital overseeing the private equity firm’s Score+ strategy will join Sung Lee, an executive vice president with the research, valuation and advisory practice at Altus Group, along with two other speakers, to explore opportunities in high-yielding market segments including student housing, co-living and senior living.
