BuroHappold Brings Over Nick Greenwood to Head Asia Business

UK built-environment consultancy BuroHappold Engineering has appointed a new head for its Asia business as the company reshapes its management globally.

BuroHappold partner Nick Greenwood has relocated from the company’s Bath Headquarters to take over as Asia Director and Engineering Services Leader for the forty-year-old firm, and is now based in Hong Kong.

Although BuroHappold became known for its projects in the Middle East, in more recent years the company has been involved in growing number of high profile projects in Asia.

On the mainland, BuroHappold supported Zaha Hadid’s design of the new Beijing airport, providing civil and structural engineering services for the $11.2 billion project, as well as consulting on the design of the Qianhai Pilot Zone in Shenzhen.

In Hong Kong, the UK firm worked with Foster & Partners on the Hong Kong International Cruise Terminal at Kai Tak, as well as helping to lead the creation of the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Centre. More recently, the firm again teamed with Hadid for the design of the Hotel D at Melco Crown Entertainment’s City of Dreams in Macau.

Greenwood’s appointment is part of a new geographic strategy for BuroHappold which will be managing the Middle East, India and Asia businesses together under the leadership of regional Managing Director, Oliver Plunkett, according to a statement from the company. The company, which maintains offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Dubai and Riyadh, already has more than 300 staff in the region.

A structural engineer by training, Greenwood has been with BuroHappold since 1988, including 13 years in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and has worked on projects in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, Malaysia, Singapore and China.
