Colliers HK Brings Aboard CBRE’s Stanley Wong in Capital Markets Refresh

Stanley Wong joins Colliers from CBRE

Colliers Hong Kong has hired former CBRE veteran Stanley Wong as senior executive director for capital markets and investment services, aiming to accelerate growth and attract new clients to the real estate brokerage.

Wong recently left CBRE, where he had handled more than HK$8 billion ($1 billion) in transactions in nearly nine years with the firm’s capital markets team, where he served most recently as an executive director focusing on trades of en bloc buildings and retail podiums.

Helping to round out Colliers’ investment team are senior director Freddy Wan, director Matthew Cheng and manager Joe Yip, all freshly hired after stints at CBRE.

Strength of Experience

“We are delighted to have Stanley and the team join the business,” said Colliers Hong Kong managing director Nigel Smith. “His experience in real estate investment will benefit not only the investment team, but echo through the entire business.”

Smith called the hiring “well-timed” in light of China’s economic recovery and its potential to boost the Hong Kong real estate market.

Wong’s onboarding follows Colliers’ recent recruitment of several capital markets and investment services directors, as well as the late-2019 hiring of CK Lau, a 30-year JLL fixture, as managing director of valuation and advisory services for Colliers in Asia.

Trading Brokers

The investment department at CBRE became more crowded in mid-2019 when Reeves Yan was named executive director and head of capital markets for CBRE in Hong Kong. Wong stepped down from his leadership role in favour of Yan, who was himself a former executive director for capital markets and investment services at Colliers Hong Kong for 11 years.

Then in October of this year, a trio of Savills investment brokers jumped to CBRE: Jonathan Chau became head of investment property and private office, Barry Chung was named a director of private office and capital markets, and Avan Pau joined as a senior director of investment property and private office with the capital markets team.

Before his stint at CBRE, Wong also spent time in the investment departments of JLL and DTZ from 2001 to 2012.

“Colliers has a strong reputation in the market and a clear trajectory as the world’s fastest growing real estate firm,” he said. “This is a great opportunity for my team as we join a business with a ‘growth mind-set’ and use this platform to accelerate the success of both our clients and people.”

Tight-Knit Team

Wong brings a capital markets team whose members came up together through CBRE. Before joining Colliers as senior director for capital markets and investment services, Wan was senior director for capital markets at CBRE in Hong Kong from 2011 to 2020. His earlier experience includes time in the investment department at DTZ and in residential development and investment at Savills.

Apart from his Hong Kong work, Wan has marketed overseas properties in Australia, the US and mainland China.

Also a CBRE hand from 2011 to 2020, director Cheng has been involved in property transactions in Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland China.
