Asia Real Estate People in the News 2016-08-22

2016/08/22 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

Our last week in August finds still more Asia real estate folks landing in new roles, and even some people outside of Asia. Gaw Capital could be on the lookout for a new head of its US operations, if any of you are feeling lucky, while a major real estate agency says goodbye to yet another senior member of its capital markets team. Read on for all these moves and more.

tim walshTim Walsh, Chicago-based president and chief operating officer of Gaw Capital North America, has left the Hong Kong real estate private equity firm to join Owl Rock Capital Partners. Walsh is leaving after three years with the family run Hong Kong firm, where the former investment head of New Jersey’s state pension fund was charged with increasing the firm’s investments in US real estate and raising money from institutional investors. At Owl Rock Walsh will join founding partners Marc Lipschultz, who came from KKR and former Blackstone Group LP executive Doug Ostrover.

Yu Kam-hung

Yu Kam-hung has resigned from his position as Senior Managing Director of Investment Properties for Hong Kong at CBRE, according to an internal memo seen by Mingtiandi. Previously head of CBRE’s valuations team for Greater China, Yu was moved into his role brokering investment transactions when Danny Mohr took over the valuations team in January of 2015. After joining the real estate agency in 2002, Yu’s last day at CBRE will be November 15th. The 30-year veteran of Hong Kong’s property industry is leaving CBRE’s investment department less than two months after Richard Kirke, the company’s former head of Capital Markets for APAC, headed back to New Zealand to head up CBRE’s Auckland office. Kirke has since been appointed International Sales Director, Capital Markets for Colliers International in New Zealand.

george chuangGeorge Chuang has joined Tishman Speyer as Director for Equity Capital Markets, based in Shanghai. Chuang comes to the US-based developer from Dalian Wanda Group in Beijing, where he had spent the last two years helping to steer Wanda’s string of overseas real estate acquisitions. The graduate of the University of Central Florida also has previous experience with Forterra Trust (formerly Treasury China Trust), Morgan Stanley, and DTZ.

simon marionSimon Marion has joined Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions as a Director for Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. Marion started work with the project management subsidiary of Canada’s Brookfield group after previously spending more than four years with Cushman & Wakefield in Singapore, most recently as an Associate Director for Project Management in Asia Pacific. The graduate of Toulouse Business School in France also has previous experience with independent project management firm SIP in Shanghai.

roy ngRoy Ng has joined Sun Hung Kai Properties in Hong Kong as a Senior Research Officer. Ng takes on his new role after spending just over two years with CBRE’s research department in Hong Kong, most recently as a Manager. Ng, who holds a master’s degree in real estate from the University of Hong Kong, also has previous experience with serviced office provider Compass Offices, and recruiter Judd Farris.

tony chanTony Chan is now a Senior Consultant with CPG Corporation in Singapore, where he specialises in integrated strategies and sustainable planning for the development consultancy firm. Chan joins the privately held Singaporean firm after ten years at ARUP in Shanghai where the University of New South Wales graduate had managed the planning, urban design, landscape design and sustainability teams for the giant UK engineering firm.

As usual, if you know of other China real estate professionals changing their jobs, getting promoted or just doing something exciting, please feel free to share with the rest of the community here at Mingtiandi.
