China Real Estate People in the News 2014-09-22

2014/09/22 by Michael Cole Leave a Comment

This week China’s real estate community sees a new head of China real estate investment for a major US financial concern, a veteran broker joins JLL to advise Chinese investors on overseas deals and more. Read on for details.

Susan Sun has been appointed the new Head of China for Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing, according to an internal memo circulated at the US firm last week. Sun, who has spent nearly a decade with Morgan Stanley, takes over responsibility from the company’s departing Managing Director and Head of Morgan Stanley Real Estate for Greater China and Southeast Asia Calvin Chou, whose pending departure was first revealed publicly on Mingtiandi last week. According to a person familiar with the matter, the change in leadership comes as Morgan Stanley Real Estate reorganises its senior echelons in Asia and prepares to launch a new fund. A spokesperson for Morgan Stanley declined to comment.

Flora Wang JLLFlora Wang has joined JLL in Shanghai as a Local Director with the real estate consultancy’s International Capital Group. In her new role, the 11-year veteran of Shanghai’s real estate industry will be advising Chinese firms on overseas property investment opportunities. Wang joins JLL from the Office Services team of competitor CBRE, making this the second week in a row that a senior member of that team has announced their departure from the US-based real estate agency. With Wang’s departure, approximately half of the team members have now departed the once profitable division.

Sam Harvey-Jones CBRESam Harvey-Jones is now Co-Head of the Office Occupier Services team for Asia with CBRE in Hong Kong. The new role for Harvey-Jones is a step up from his previous duties as a Senior Director with the real estate service provider’s office team. According to CBRE, its occupier services team advises clients on office relocation, expansion, consolidation, sublease, acquisition and disposal.

Ruth Lee KerryRuth Lee is now Deputy General Manager (Operations) at Kerry Properties Limited in Tianjin. The Hong Kong native joins Kerry from Tesco where she previously served as National Mall Management Director for the UK retailer for three years. Tesco last year sold its China hypermarket operations to competitor China Resources Vanguard. Prior to joining Tesco, Lee had served for more than two years with CapitaLand in Tianjin as Deputy General Manager for Sales & Marketing.

Weiyi Lee MapletreeWeiyi Lee has joined Mapletree in Shanghai as an Assistant Associate Director for its logistics division. In his new role Lee is responsible for marketing and promotion of the Singaporean developer’s warehouse projects in Wuxi, Wujiang, Shangshu, Hangzhou and Changsha. Prior to joining Mapletree, Lee spent four and a half years with Dalian Software Park’s Suzhou office as a Project Manager.

Shane ZhangShane Zhang is now a Manager with Global Logistic Properties (GLP) based in Shanghai, where he is responsible for business development. Zhang joins the warehouse developer from Ping An Insurance where he had spent more than two and half years as a real estate market analyst. Zhang holds an MBA from the University of Reading in the UK and also has experience as an analyst with the advisory services team at Colliers International in Shanghai.

Seth MouSeth Mou has joined the Compass Group in Shenzhen as a Sales Manager for the serviced office provider. Prior to taking on his role at Compass Mou had served for just less than a year with Regus as a General Manager with the company’s operation in Shenzhen. The Jinan University graduate also previously spent nearly three years as a Business Development Manager with DTZ in Shenzhen.

As usual, if you know of other China real estate professionals changing their jobs, getting promoted or just doing something exciting, please feel free to share with the rest of the community here at Mingtiandi.
