As 2021 enters its second full week, there is an upswing in real estate industry leaders checking in from new work locations, as Blackstone brings on board a top level political veteran to advise its Japanese operation.
Also fortifying their teams during the first days of the year are the UK’s Chelsfield, and Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC.
US private equity giant Blackstone has fortified its Japanese operation by bringing on board a one-time top aide to former prime minister Shinzo Abe, the company announced in the closing days of 2020. Eiichi Hasegawa, formerly senior advisor to Abe, now holds the same job title with Blackstone, where he is expected to give direction on capital raising, investments and the economic outlook on behalf of his new team. In a regional move, Blackstone’s Kishore Moorjani has resigned from his role as head of the firm’s opportunistic investment platform for Asia, according to a Bloomberg report over the weekend. Menes Chee, a senior partner with the company’s New York office will be relocating to Hong Kong to take over from Moorjani in February.
Jun-Ho Lee has been promoted to group head of capital raising and investor relations at Chelsfield in Hong Kong, just over three and a half years after joining the UK developer and fund manager. Lee, who holds degrees from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and the University of Hong Kong, also has prior experience with UK developer Grosvenor Limited in Hong Kong, where he served from 2012 through 2017.
Tianyi Wang has joined GIC as a vice president, based in Shanghai, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Wang signed up with the Singaporean sovereign wealth fund after nearly five and a half years with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), where he served most recently as an investment manager. The University of British Columbia graduate also has previous experience at Goldman Sachs and CBRE.
Jane Ding has been promoted to group managing director for greater China with The Executive Centre, based in Shanghai. Ding is taking her latest step up after more than 11 years with the serviced office group, following a term of over three years as TEC’s managing director for China. Before joining the Hong Kong-based firm in 2009, the University of Manchester graduate had worked with both Regus and Servcorp in Shanghai.
Data centre specialist Alex Perkins has joined Stratus Data Centres in Hong Kong as chief development officer with the firm, according to an update to his LinkedIn profile. Perkins came aboard at the firm backed by Eric Solberg-helmed private equity player EXS Capital after nearly 14 years with JLL, where he served most recently as data centre solutions lead for Asia Pacific while based in the consultancy’s Hong Kong office.
Australian developer Lendlease has brought on board Joelle Chen as its new sustainability director for Singapore, according to an update this month. Chen joins the firm after just over a year with built environment consulting firm Beca in the city, where she led digital transformations for the Auckland-based firm. The National University of Singapore graduate also has prior experience with Mann+Hummel Group and World Green Building Council in the city.
Sam Gourlay has been promoted to head of tenant representation with JLL in Hong Kong, after less than one year with the property consultancy. Prior to joining JLL in mid-2020, the graduate of the Henley business school in the UK had spent more than seven years with the tenant representation team at Colliers International in Hong Kong, and also has experience with Knight Frank and Henderson Global Investors in the UK.
