Asset management seems to be the field to pursue if you want a new job this week, as BlackRock promotes a ten-year veteran to a regional leadership role, and a German institution selects a new head for its Asian operations. James Mellors has been promoted to Head of BlackRock Alternatives Specialists for Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong. A veteran of ten years with the asset management giant, Mellors now leads a team of alternative investment specialists located across the APAC region. His team is responsible for coordinating the sales and marketing of BlackRock’s alternative investment products and capabilities, including hedge funds, private equity, private credit and real assets – including both real estate and infrastructure.
Union Investment Real Estate has announced that Philip La Pierre will now be responsible for office investment in the Asia Pacific and the Americas for the Hamburg-based fund manager. La Pierre had previously served as head of the company’s European operations since 2013, a role that will now be taken over by Martin Schellein. The trained lawyer also had experience with Credit Suisse and ING Real Estate (now CBRE Global Investors) before joining Union in 2009.
Jennifer Jin has joined shared office startup naked Hub as a sales manager, based in Shanghai. Jin has signed up with the venture-funded co-working provider as it prepares to expand its presence across Asia this year, after raising $33 million in capital late in 2016. Before starting work at naked Hub this month, Jin had spent the past year as a business development manager with serviced office provider The Executive Centre.
Katherine Ip has joined US insurance heavyweight MetLife as Senior Real Estate Transactions Specialist for Asia, excluding Japan. Based in Hong Kong, Ip takes on her new role after spending the last two years as a Senior Portfolio Manager for Cushman & Wakefield in the city. The graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University also has previous experience with Bloomberg, King & Wood Mallesons, and AllianceBernstein.
